Frederick Exley published two books, I think. The one people still read, A Fan's Notes is a strange and funny classic. If you haven't read it, it's Exley's obsessive comparison between his drunken self and his college coeval, Frank Gifford. It's sad, tender bruise of a book.

Frederick Exley wrote two sequels to A Fan's Notes: Pages From A Cold Island and Last Notes From Home.

You are right, the first is by far the best, but those who have recently read that one may well be interested in following up with at least the second. Exley's works are novels, but follow closely the contours of his own life.
