What is this book my daughter used to read? It is about a little girl(?) who visits a neighbor who, in contrast to her family, has a lot of children. Or maybe all the neighbor kids visited her, but I think she also had a lot of kids. The woman had red frizzy hair and a very red face, and one page had her face taking up most of the page. The family had a bunch of pets, and it was about how the child from the neat family didn't initially know what to think of this neighbor, but came to like her and her family.

What year did you read it?
Was it old or new then?
What did the cover look like?
What country is it set in? America?

2005ish, but it was pretty old. I think I got the recommendation from Marguerite Kelly's Mother's Almanac or Choosing Books for Kids. It is a large picture book. It is about a little girl who visits her neighbor, who she is initially afraid of because the neighbor is big and has a red face, and a messy house, but the house and family turn out to be nice. I don't remember the cover very well. I want to say the background is a dark color, and there is a picture of the neighbor, or the house. I think it's from England, but again, I'm not sure. I thought it was called something with a Mrs. and a House in it. But not Mrs. Wishy-Washy. I think it is for an older kid than that one, and the drawings are more involved, not overly cartoony or drawn looking.

Have you tried a search like this or you can try a broader search and sort by date and limit to reduce the results.

One of the results was Mrs. Christie's Farmhouse by Caroline Browne, but doesn't sound quite what you're after. Highly rated though.

Looking on Google Books now, results, how about this? Preview the book -- a little boy makes friends with a neighbour and overcomes his fear of her and her family. That sounds much more like what you describe. I'll Take You to Mrs Cole by Nigel Gray
Random House, 1998 - - 32 pages
A touching story about a little boy who lives on his own with his working mother, illustrated by Michael Foreman.
Several covers on LibraryThing.
