We all get, from time to time, these little literary fixations. I had one on the Dutch in the Medway, my home river (they burnt my home-town!) - I even thought of researching and writing it myself until I found a grand, and complete, history.
But I remain frustrated on anything - other than fiction - on the II Roman Legion, Augustus, known I believe as "The Engineers".
In your extensive non-fictional historical readings have any of you come across anything please? (I do not read Latin).

Years later from my first request I still have found no real non-fiction work(s) on this Legion. Passing references from H V Morton and a selection from letters on clay tablets found on Hadrian's wall is about all the progress.

Its an intriguing question. Are there any regimental or unit histories of a single Roman legion? In English?

http://www.librarything.com/work/10605781 covers all the legions. I am looking specifically for a Bio of "The Engineers". I have sent for this work and will post a review when I have read it.
