My favorite site is Bookoutlet.com.
While I vowed to curb my book purchasing, I simply had to add 30 more at the end of the year. Some titles were a mere $1.99 each!

If not, I highly recommend bookfinder.com. If a book is out there, it's probably on this site.

Paper books -- I like www.betterworldbooks.com. They are having a salenow through Jan. 5 at 11 a.m.

They have e-books now, too, but I never tried them and they are not in the special sale.

Am not sure why the George R.R. Martin 4-book bundle on AMZ US is $21.99 when the FIVE-book bundle is $19.99...but they are both there. eReaderIQ recommends waiting for the 5-book set to go back to $9.99 before you buy it.
116elkiedee
I see that kind of thing on Amazon a lot for books and even more for DVD box sets. I assume not many people still buy the 4 volume one and it's not being promoted or having the price varied. Not in the US or interested in George R R Martin but even $19.99 seems like quite a good deal for those who want those books.

Gaithersburg Book Festival
Saturday, May 16th, 2015
10am-6pm
Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA
Come celebrate books and authors!

This is Gaithersburg's answer to the National Book Festival. It was set up like the "old" National Book Festival (i.e. outside in tents). At first, it was just local authors, but now it seems to be attracting some more known authors. It keeps growing from year to year. The festival is free - with free parking.
Last year they had a shuttle bus from the Shady Grove Metro. Check the link to see if they have it this year again.
My BookCrossing group will be there giving away hundreds of FREE (the price is right), gently-used books to fairgoers. If you get there, look for me and come over to say "Hi!". I'll be wearing a badge that says "SqueakyChu". :D

Thanks to the Millions I just downloaded the e-book Men Explain Things to Me by Rebecca Solnit, a collection of essays in which the author "takes on the conversations between men who wrongly assume they know things and wrongly assume women don't. Been meaning to post this for a few days...
Many of you know blackdogbooks and his reviews. He and a group of reviewers here on LT have put together a self-published collection of their reviews and are offering it online. Cost of the book is completely donated to a charity for Downs Syndrome kids. Here are the details:
A bunch of us LT'ers that I correspond with were inspired by the site and our own conversations to compile a book of our reviews - And we have self-published it. We're pretty excited about the project. All the proceeds will be donated to a charity for down syndrome. All of the reviews come from LT'ers like you and the range of books/literature is pretty wide, as is the style of reviews. I contributed several reviews/essays.
It feels weird telling you about this, because I've gotten those shameless author marketing PMs from guys trolling their wares - I hope you don't see this as something like that. We just wanted to let other LT'ers who love books and reviews to know about it and I thought I'd send this to you. I've posted the information about the book on my thread on the 75'er group but I thought I'd let you know about it directly and if you feel it appropriate you can repost somewhere else in the group that you think might reach more LT'ers like us who won't be offended by the suggestion. Again, only if you feel it appropriate.

I'd always gotten the impression that those who were really active on LT could mention if they or another LT-er wrote something. (As opposed to the trolls who join just to peddle their wares.) Maybe all the direct links to buy it were a bit much. BTW, nowhere does it state the name of the book . . .
I am really surprised that anyone in the 75-ers would flag one of your posts within the 75 Challenge group threads, Jim! Also, this thread being for book sale notices, I'm not sure why it's objectionable to post it here, of all places.

This is the book sale thread, not the books for sale thread. I didn't think Jim quite crossed the line - he's not offering for sale his own book. so technically I'd think he was within the allowable postings, particularly if he mentioned it on his own thread ferinstance. Spreading it around tho is where one ventures into spammy promotion areas. my tuppence worth.

I want to make sure this doesn't become a divisive issue. Everybody here has good motives - me, the flaggers, the counter-flaggers, everyone. In hindsight, I should have summarized and then asked interested folks to contact me privately for more info.

By the way, I get why some folks think this is flaggable. It was borderline, and I sympathize with the desire to keep LT the community we love.

I can't believe this became such a big issue. The book is written by members of our community, it's for a good cause, this is a thread where we look for book sales, we've all seen spam and there was nothing spammy about Jim's (or Mac's) message. People WILL make a big fuss out of stuff just because they can. I for one am considering getting the book and glad Jim chose to post about it.

By really active, I mean someone who didn't just throw up a profile with one or two books in order to paste spam all over the site -- those of us who really talk about books. And the TOS talk about SELF promotion, as I recall. We all write about books other people wrote. I'm not sure what the LT discussion would be otherwise.
eta to add Admittedly, I would have preferred to see not so many links. I don't buy things by clicking links, on discussion boards or in e-mails. It's an unsafe practice discouraged by Internet security experts.
