Welcome back, good luck, & congrats on 2 down already!
As for your "short list"... I particularly liked It... it's a big book, but it goes quickly! (it is, after all, King...)

avanders - I started reading It last summer and was really enjoying it, but then I had to house sit for a week... and there was no way I was going to continue reading the most frightening novel I'd ever experienced while I had to sleep alone in someone else's house... so I set it down in exchange for something more light and fluffy intending to pick it up again when I got back home. I guess that just never happened.
This year, I need to plan when to read it when I know I am going to be home for a good stretch of time afterwards and Tony will be as well. I like Stephen King, but some of his more frightening books get in the way of me being able to sleep... something I am sure many can relate with...

I finished Written in Red last night and really enjoyed it, mostly for the world Anne Bishop created. I am looking forward to getting my hands on the sequel!

Finished listening to Etiquette and Espionage on my way home from work today, and I loved it! The reader was awesome, I've been thinking in a British accent for days... feeling like I should be drinking tea...
Up next is The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black.

I am really happy that I happened upon the audiobook version for this book! The reader did an absolutely wonderful job and fortunately, my library has the whole trilogy! :)
I also borrowed the ebook version of Soulless and really enjoyed that as well. It's always exciting when you discover an author you had previously overlooked!

Between a week off from work for a midwinter break, and several snow days (or rather, cold weather days... I'm in western New York and we've had wind chills at -25 and -30 F a few days), I've been getting A LOT of reading done! I've had a cold for about a month that I can't seem to shake, so I spent a significant portion of my break curled up in bed with my kindle. Aside from feeling sick, I had a pretty nice little vacation - the freezing temperatures were the perfect excuse to not leave the house and I reveled in the laziness!
So far this year I have read 21 books, although a couple of those were more like novellas.
I'm just getting ready to start my next Patricia Briggs, Silver Borne

Wow 21 books! Way to go!
Hope you shake that cold soon! At least you've had nice time to read :)

I'm sorry to hear you've been ill, but am relieved that you were not too ill to read. And yes, these ridiculously cold temperatures make a great excuse to stay in!
19MissWatson
There must be an upside to all that cold weather you're having. Good to hear that the cold didn't stop you from enjoying reading!
21johanna414
After about a month of generally feeling ill, I am finally feeling better. I'm thinking the fact that we have *finally* had a little sun shining the past couple days may have a lot to do with that...
I don't know if it's because I had a run of really good books while I was sick, or if I'm a little distracted but I've been in a bit of a reading slump recently. I keep picking up books, reading a couple chapters and then setting them back down. Then I'll do the same thing with another book, and another... Nothing has really grabbed my interest this week. I've got a full day off from work on Sunday, so hopefully I will be able to get curl up with the kitties and read a good book!
I shouldn't have too much trouble choosing something to read - I think I started like 6 books this week!

So, did you get lucky with a book and break the reading slump this weekend?
23johanna414
Nope - I went shopping and bought some shoes for my wedding instead!

Seem to have cured the book slump - I read a few simple romances, the type that don't really require much attention. Now I'm in the middle of In the Woods by Tana French and loving it!
27MissWatson
Happy reading!

Just finished Mistborn after listening to my husband nag at me for the past two years about how much I would love it. Turns out he was right... it was awesome! I read Steelheart last year and loved that, so I seem to be joining Tony in the Brandon Sanderson fan club.
Haven't been getting a ton of reading done - it's been a busy year! Most of what I've been reading has been for work (I'm a school librarian, so that's not really a hardship...)
Tony and I got married in August and we are expecting a baby boy in January! I've gone from working 7 days a week to only 6, and now that I'm almost 32 weeks pregnant, I'm going to have to cut back even more.
I have a couple of books I'd really like to read before the baby is here, since I know I'm not going to have much reading time once he's here. Despite that, I couldn't resist starting The Well of Ascension immediately after finishing Mistborn.

I've got my Scholastic Book Fair at work this week - which means I've been sitting in my library all day while kids come in to shop during their breaks. I catalogued about 75 books, spent my entire book budget for the school year (so much fun!) and have spend much of my time reading. I justify it by telling myself that I need to stay up to date on children's and YA literature...
I read Flora and Ulysses which was absolutely adorable and El Deafo which I generally like, but had a few issues with. Right now I'm reading The Diviners by Libba Bray which started off slow but is picking up.

>39 johanna414: I used to love Scholastic Book Fairs! In fact, up until several years ago there was a warehouse in Columbus, Ohio, that held a sale of all the unsold scholastic books from nearby fairs. I haven't seen an ad for one in awhile though.
41MissWatson
I read Flora and Ulysses at the beginning of the year and adored it, too. My sister's cat is a bit like Ulysses, always thinking of food...
