I have a really good cleaning tip for removing stains from leatherette book bindings which I just, in a mad moment, thought of today. Spray a little pledge or equivalent furniture wax on a microfiber cloth and gently dry. It works beautifully. Bookish Ken

If anyone is interested (Apparently not, for shame) it works on leather just as well. I'll stop wasting my time here now.

I think we prefer to make a note rather than fill threads with thank-yous. I am sure anyone who could contribute more learning on the matter would have done so.

Frankly, I'd be careful about using furniture polish/cleaner on books, as they contain solvents which can damage the leather (and probably leatherette as well).
There are products made specifically for cleaning leather bindings, and I'd suggest you use one of those. Check Talas' catalog for a start.
