Do we have any VMC collectors in Washington State, Idaho or Oregon?
I am purging my books, yes even some of my beloveds, & would like to know if anyone within 1/2 driving distance to me is interested.

Did anyone contact you Belva? I don't want or need the books. Quite the contrary. I am getting near retirement and I just have to downsize. I think this group has got to the point where they either have the books or are no longer collecting. I am still collecting Persephones. I was up to date but they just added a couple more.

A few months ago though I got rid of all the reference books in the house. All superseded by Wikipedia and the like. I took them to a series of thrift stores, dropped them off and drove away before they could open the bags. I am sure they were greeted by groans: heavy, boring and totally out of date!

But there will come a time when I will have to do a serious cull of the VMCs. Keep maybe 30 or 40?

No, Barbara. I have had no responses so I will just donate them as I will be doing with all of the other books I am purging. The county jail would like to have my memoirs, bios, historical books & my books on the presidents and WWII & the Great War so I am happy to give them there. I don't really know anyone personally who reads quite the same way that I do so I will just get rid of them where ever & however I can. My lighter stuff can go to nieces & granddaughters. They want them so I am happy about that. :-)
I always thought my library so priceless but I guess it is/was only to me.

Belva: I can identify with your thoughts about 'priceless' libraries. I thought mine was very special but it seems only to me. A response recently from one of my nieces: "Oh aunty, why do you want to keep all those old green books. We can read most of them on the kindle!."
I have recently finished Dame Maggie Smith's biography by Michael Coveney. According to her biographer, she was a keen collector and reader of VMCs from the first publications.

I'm just seeing this...I'm in Oregon and I do enjoy finding the green viragos, those rare and wonderful moments. But I admit, I'm pretty choosy when it comes to taking them home. More of a minimalist than a collector, though I do have a good set of them (most loved) on my bookshelf. And persephones. :)

I wish I could find someone who needed to purge a few books in my area (southern states/Alabama); I'm a Virago newbie and have been hunting around for some at yard sales. I'm crossing my fingers for our library's bag sale next week, one of the librarians thought they might have some available.
