Published early 2000's, possibly female author? Book about a family: dad is Irish peace talks rep, mom is American and they have a son. Whole family goes to Africa for peace talks and they r ambushed/have wreck. Dad is kidnapped, young son kidnapped by a mercenary and turned into child soldier. Mom has amnesia and is found wandering in the jungle by a band of refugee children....think the title has word 'midnight' in it but can't find a thing on it online. So good, bought it twice in paperback and loaned it out but no one ever gives it back! Once bought used from Amazon but wasn't able to find it today.

Is this Into the Nevernight by Anne De Graaf?

Description:
While vacationing in Africa, Miriam Vree finds herself living a nightmare when a ruthless mercenary seizes her family. From the diamond mines of Namibia to the refugee camps in Tanzania, she fights to regain her freedom, her faith, and her family. Only when the voices of the refugee children point her toward Nevernight, the place of peace where it is never dark and there is no fear, does Miriam find what she has lost.

Thanks so much...now to try and find it!!! looks like it's only available in paperback and though it was first of a series, looks like she never wrote any more of them. what a shame; such a great book! thanks so much!!!! So glad that was it! I also thought it was strange that it was the first and only book of a series.

I found some used copies on Amazon. Try this URL:

Good luck!
