This is quite the time-eater, but it was a fun exercise for a Saturday morning. I would love to read other folks versions.
Select 12 favorite characters from fiction, any fiction, and answer the questions about their interactions. Some hints from my experience; it helps if they are a mix of male/female and good/evil. Also, don’t read the questions before you make your list.

1. Who would make a better college professor, 6 or 11? (Arrietty or Scout) Let’s see, both children, and yet I suspect both have more common sense than many college students these days. That was mean. I’m sorry. My grumpy old woman syndrome is showing. I choose Arrietty. It would be difficult for a 6” tall person to hold the attention of an auditorium, let alone project their voice, but with modern video and sound equipment it could be done. What would she teach? “How not to let your Limitations Limit your Life.”
2. Do you think that 2 would win the “Cutest Guy of the Year”? (Archie Goodwin) Absolutely, although I have no clear picture in my head of what he looks like.
3. 12 sends 8 out on a mission. What is it? Does it succeed? (12.Mma Ramotswe, 8.Samwise Gamgee) The mission is to stay with Note Makoti until he finds her special rooibus tea. “Don't you leave him Samwise Gamgee.” And I don't mean to.” Of course it succeeds.
4. What is or would be 9's favorite book? (Aragorn) Although he has all the books of Elven lore at his fingertips, I’m pretty sure he loves to read “There and Back Again, a Hobbit’s Tale” by Bilbo Baggins
5. Would it make more sense for 2 to swear fealty to 6, or the other way around? (2. Archie Goodwin, 6. Arrietty) Complicated. Archie is used to being the sidekick to a genius, and he can be quite the chauvinist, yet is chivalrous in his own way. He is more worldly-wise than Arrietty. Still, I think he would feel bound to protect and serve her due to his upbringing, the fact that she is female, and 6” or less tall. She would adore Archie and if he allowed it, would love to live in his desk so long as Wolfe didn’t find out.
6. For some reason, 5 is looking for a roommate. Should (s)he share a studio apartment with 9 or 10? (5.Lt. Uhura, 9.Aragorn, 10. Dame Frevisse) This is a poser. Aragorn and Uhura would make an awesome couple. However, if she is still involved with Mr. Spock, perhaps Dame Frevisse would be the better choice. Frevisse would be a great roommate. She is quiet, understanding, and keeps to her schedule, when people aren’t being murdered.
7. 2, 7, and 12 have dinner together. Where do they go, and what do they discuss? (2.Archie, 7. Wolverine, 12. Mma Ramotswe) Well, if anyone could keep Archie from being murdered by Wolverine, it would be Mma Ramotswe. They would all enjoy a quality steak house, or perhaps Ethiopian cuisine would do? It would be a stretch for Archie, but he could manage with aplomb I think. Mma Ramotswe would have to lead the conversation, probably about her childhood. If Archie were to talk much, Wolverine would end him.
8. 3 challenges 10 to a duel. What happens? (3. Flavia de Luce, 10. Dame Frevisse) This would have to be a duel of words, because Dame Frevisse would not participate otherwise. Flavia would precociously expound in her juvenile genius way on science and the marvels of chemistry, etc. and why that absolves us from any moral obligations. Then Dame Frevisse would say something quiet, in a gentle way, but absolutely devastatingly demolish all the conflated arguments Flavia had put forth.
9. If 1 stole 8's most precious possession, how would she/he get it back? (1. The Doctor, 8. Samwise Gamgee) Samwise’s most precious possession of course is his friend, Frodo Baggins; if a friend can be said to be a possession. As to how he would get Frodo back, I suppose that depends on whether Frodo had destroyed the ring yet or not. If he had not, and the Doctor stole Frodo to keep him from taking over Middle Earth or being destroyed by the ring and Sauron in the attempt (I’m sure the Doctor could travel to a place just as likely to destroy the ring as Mt. Doom), then Sam would find a way to follow and make sure Frodo was okay; clinging to the outside of the TARDIS if he had to. If on the other hand, Frodo had already destroyed the ring, and the Doctor merely came to offer him a change of pace before he headed into the West, then Samwise might let him go because of needing to get on with life with Rosie and understanding there was not much more he could do for his friend.
10. Suggest a title for a story in which 7 and 12 both attain what they most desire. (7.Wolverine, 12. Mma Ramotswe) “The Cow and the Wolverine” Precious dreams of a cattle ranch, Wolverine dreams of death, but apart from that, of anonymity. This story would have him enjoying a quiet life managing Mma’s cattle ranch in Botswana.
11. What kind of plot device would you use if you wanted 4 and 1 to work together? (4. Harry Dresden, 1. The Doctor) No plot devise needed. I would love to see Harry Dresden as the next companion for the Doctor! Think of the villains! Think how much worse things could always get before they saved everyone in the end! Think of the manic energy and the wise-cracks!
12. If 7 visited you for the weekend, how would you get along? (7. Wolverine) I can’t write this. I’m happily married and I want to stay that way.
13. If you could command 3 to perform any one task or service for you, what would it be? (3.Flavia de Luce) Hmmm, she’s not very good at following commands. I would ask her to find a cure for cancer.
14. If 12 had to choose sides between 4 and 5, which would it be? (12. Mma Ramotswe, 4. Harry Dresden, 5. Lt. Nyota Uhura) Mma would find a way to bring everyone together so that choosing sides was unnecessary. Then they would have tea.
15. What might 10 shout while charging into battle? (10.Dame Frevisse) I’m sure she would have an appropriate litany for the situation, although I don’t know what it is.
16. If you chose a song to represent 8, which song would you choose? (8. Samwise Gamgee) I Will Take You Home by Ed Sheeran. His song “Firefly” seems like a song Samwise would write for Rosie. Have I mentioned that I love Ed Sheeran’s songs?
17. 1, 6, and 12 are having dim sum at a Chinese restaurant. There is only one scallion pancake left, and they all reach for it at the same time. Who gets to eat it? (1. The Doctor, 6. Arrietty, 12. Mma Ramotswe) This isn’t a Christmas dinner, right? Because the Doctor doesn’t do Christmas dinners. Mma Romotswe would insist that the Doctor have it, but she would also mention that he could cut off a tiny bit for Arrietty; after all, a small bite would be a meal for her.
18. What might be a good pick-up line for 2 to use on 10? (2. Archie Goodwin, 10. Dame Frevisse) Hah! As good as Archie is at pick-up lines, there isn’t one in the world that she wouldn’t see through. She would love the Puck in Archie though and might very well enlist him to help her solve murders.
19. What would 5 most likely be arrested for? (5.Lt. Uhura) Trying to get one of her crewmates out of a jam and getting caught up in their shenanigans is the only thing I can imagine.
20. What is 6's secret? (Arrietty) That she converses with normal sized humans.
21. If 11 and 9 were racing to a destination, who would get there first? (11. Scout, 9. Aragorn) Aragorn would never leave Scout behind. He would probably make it look like she won.
22. If you had to walk home through a bad neighborhood late at night, would you feel safer in the company of 7 or 8? (7.Wolverine, 8. Samwise) Sorry Sam, it’s Wolverine every time, but you can come with us.

Meanwhile, 4 (Harry) has kidnapped 12 (Mma Ramotswe) in an attempt to force their surrender. Following the wise advice of 5 (Lt. Uhura), they seek out 3 (Flavia de Luce), who gives them what they need to complete their quest. What title would you give this fic? Space,Time and the Natural order of Things versus Mad Faerie Magic. Of course the plot twist is that Harry would be secretly working against his sinister secret organization all along.

He being a horse can only paw the earth, whinney, and run really really fast, so he’d probably fail tremendously and Danvers would take out her vengeance by fixing his next race so he would come in dead last.

Marlowe should share with The Phantom of the Opera for sure since he’d spend all his time trying to build a lake in the basement and Marlowe could have the place to himself. Bridget would be the wrong dame for him since she would probably want him to spend all his time following Mr. Darcy to see if he likes her.

Amelia Peabody would probably lecture Mrs. Danvers on her lack of scruples, but would admire her single-minded focus and ability to think on her feet.
3 challenges 10 to a duel. What happens? Cass Neary would probably show up stoned or drunk and Tom Ripley would coerce some dupe to take his place and would the poor idiot would end up dead because drunk or not, Cass is a mean one.
If 1 stole 8’s most precious possession, how would s/he get it back? The Black’s most precious possession is probably Alec, since the kid feeds him. Zaphod would probably try to get Alec into the Total Perspective Vortex, just to see what would happen. But The Black would go to Ford Prefect who does have a bit of mind-meld ability with animals (just remember the deer) and would immediately understand the predicament. He’d distract Zaphod with tickets to Disaster Area, but slip him a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster instead. The Black would ride in, rescue Alec and hit Milliways.
Suggest a title for a story in which 7 and 12 achieve what the both most desire. The Curse of the Scuttled Boat
What kind of a plot device would you use if you wanted 4 and 1 to work together? Zaphod would need to remember something that was locked off in that portion of his brain that he locked off. He’d need to hire Elvis Cole to find out if he could pick it.
If 7 visited you for the weekend, how would you get along? We’d get along great! Amelia Peabody could teach me all about Egyptology and how to seem like you’re acquiescing to your husband’s ideas, when they were really yours all along. I’d help her select some great new jeans and boots to wear in the desert that are practical and that Emerson will die for.

I was a little dismayed at how hard it was for me to think of favorite female characters. It's not that I have none, but they are far outweighed by males. Not sure if that is my preference, or the fact that females aren't being portrayed in likable ways. Probably both I'm guessing. I may be more particular about what I like in females than in males.

I also really like it! I'm working on my own version. I have the reverse 'problem', most of my favorite characters are female. I wonder if it was always like that. I think it's only in the last years that I pay more attention to female representation in what I read...

1. Who would make a better college professor, 6 or 11? (Reddington or Gabriel Walsh). I think Reddington. Of course he would not be a college professor exclusively. But he is good at covers, pretending to be someone else, and he tends to be knowledgeable. I could see him teaching, history for instance, in the meanwhile doing his shady stuff. Gabriel on the other hand is socially awkward. He can deal with people in his capacity as a lawyer, but students? Well, he could teach law and if he could stick to facts and the pure dissemination of knowledge, perhaps he could manage. He wouldn't like dealing with the people-side of teaching, though. Gabriel could handle the technicalities of teaching, but not the heart of it. Therefore I think Reddington would be the better college professor.

Hell, no! For one, she is not a guy. For two, I don't think anyone would have the guts to describe her as cute. She would be devastatingly gorgeous, dangerously sensual or powerfully elegant. Not cute.

I’m taking the liberty of choosing the timing on this. I’m having a hard time imaging Ender sending anyone out on a mission as an adult. But of course, at his time in battle school or right after, it would make perfect sense. Kerowyn essentially being a military person, she would have no problems taking orders, even from a young person, as long as they are sensible. If I transplant Ender into Kerowyn’s world, I’m sure he would be a tactical genius there just as well as in space, so he would send her to fight a certain battle or conquer some outpost and Kerowyn would totally succeed.
4. What is or would be 9's favorite book? (Rowan)
As a steerswoman, Rowan’s passion is knowledge. Her favorite book would therefore be something non-fiction. My guess is it would either be an encyclopedia or a science book. From an encyclopedia she could get a lot of knowledge about our world and she could probably deduce many things from it. However, I don’t believe encyclopedias are big on explanations of science, and I believe Rowan is sufficiently intrigued by the abstract that she would cherish a book about the fundamentals of science most. My guess is a study book about either physics, chemistry, biology or geology.

Oh dear. Neither one of them are the fealty-swearing kind… I think both of them are practical enough to do swear fealty to someone if the situation requires it. I don’t think either of them would feel constrained to stick to their oath. I could see Raymond honouring such an oath in spirit at least, if it were made to the right person, but Melisande could never be that person.
So whoever swears fealty to whom, it would never be true fealty, but somehow I could sooner see Raymond do it because of some complicate plan than the other way around. He has less pride.

Oh dear, Kiriel is searching for a roommate? She is not the most sociable person… I guess I’ll give this task to Rowan. She’s less likely to get into a fight with Kiriel, and her enforced openness and honesty might intrigue Kiriel, whereas Rowan would have an interesting study object as well.

Both of the ladies belong to society, so they would pick something equivalent to a fancy French restaurant, and I’m sure Ender would not object. The ladies being who they are, I’m sure they would discuss a plot of some kind; either because they are working together on said plot, or because they are trying to feel each other out. The question is, what on earth is Ender doing there? I guess Melisande is caught up in some plot, Sophronia is trying to gather information about this to stop her, and she ran into Ender before, the two of them like each other, and he is observing and will later arrive at some clever insight that will allow Sophronia to save the day.

Ok, Phedre could totally steal something if she felt it was necessary. So what would she steal? I guess Kerowyn’s most precious possession is the sword Need. And that could totally work, because Need can only be stolen with Need’s approval, which would be if Phedre needed her. That means that this could only happen if Phedre was under attack (by men of course, since Need would not attack women) while Josceline was elsewhere. Then the matter would be up to Need afterwards. Either she would feel that she would fit better with Phedre, in which case Kerowyn wouldn’t get her back, or she would want to go back to Kerowyn, in which case Phedre would give her back.

1. Who would make a better college professor, 6 or 11? (Reddington or Gabriel Walsh). I think Reddington. Of course he would not be a college professor exclusively. But he is good at covers, pretending to be someone else, and he tends to be knowledgeable. I could see him teaching, history for instance, in the meanwhile doing his shady stuff. Gabriel on the other hand is socially awkward. He can deal with people in his capacity as a lawyer, but students? Well, he could teach law and if he could stick to facts and the pure dissemination of knowledge, perhaps he could manage. He wouldn't like dealing with the people-side of teaching, though. Gabriel could handle the technicalities of teaching, but not the heart of it. Therefore I think Reddington would be the better college professor.
2. Do you think that 2 would win the “Cutest Guy of the Year”? (Melisande Shahrizai)
Hell, no! For one, she is not a guy. For two, I don't think anyone would have the guts to describe her as cute. She would be devastatingly gorgeous, dangerously sensual or powerfully elegant. Not cute.

I’m taking the liberty of choosing the timing on this. I’m having a hard time imaging Ender sending anyone out on a mission as an adult. But of course, at his time in battle school or right after, it would make perfect sense. Kerowyn essentially being a military person, she would have no problems taking orders, even from a young person, as long as they are sensible. If I transplant Ender into Kerowyn’s world, I’m sure he would be a tactical genius there just as well as in space, so he would send her to fight a certain battle or conquer some outpost and Kerowyn would totally succeed.
4. What is or would be 9's favorite book? (Rowan)
As a steerswoman, Rowan’s passion is knowledge. Her favorite book would therefore be something non-fiction. My guess is it would either be an encyclopedia or a science book. From an encyclopedia she could get a lot of knowledge about our world and she could probably deduce many things from it. However, I don’t believe encyclopedias are big on explanations of science, and I believe Rowan is sufficiently intrigued by the abstract that she would cherish a book about the fundamentals of science most. My guess is a study book about either physics, chemistry, biology or geology.
5. Would it make more sense for 2 to swear fealty to 6, or the other way around (Melisande Shahrizai & Raymond Reddington)
Oh dear. Neither one of them are the fealty-swearing kind… I think both of them are practical enough to do swear fealty to someone if the situation requires it. I don’t think either of them would feel constrained to stick to their oath. I could see Raymond honouring such an oath in spirit at least, if it were made to the right person, but Melisande could never be that person.
So whoever swears fealty to whom, it would never be true fealty, but somehow I could sooner see Raymond do it because of some complicate plan than the other way around. He has less pride.

Oh dear, Kiriel is searching for a roommate? She is not the most sociable person… I guess I’ll give this task to Rowan. She’s less likely to get into a fight with Kiriel, and her enforced openness and honesty might intrigue Kiriel, whereas Rowan would have an interesting study object as well.

Both of the ladies belong to society, so they would pick something equivalent to a fancy French restaurant, and I’m sure Ender would not object. The ladies being who they are, I’m sure they would discuss a plot of some kind; either because they are working together on said plot, or because they are trying to feel each other out. The question is, what on earth is Ender doing there? I guess Melisande is caught up in some plot, Sophronia is trying to gather information about this to stop her, and she ran into Ender before, the two of them like each other, and he is observing and will later arrive at some clever insight that will allow Sophronia to save the day.
