My daughter just turned 8, and she's at the stage where she's just ready to make the leap into chapter books ... she enjoys ballet and dance, but isn't really excessively "girly" ... any suggestions?

They're a bit dated and english, but I loved the Sadlers Wells series at that age. The first is A dream of sadlers wells and they're by Lorna Hill.

Also Noel Streatfield wrote many excellent children's books which featured dance/theatre/ballet/ice skating display etc. The girls were not girly. Try Ballet Shoes or White Boots. However, again the settings of 1950s england may not translate well now.
