Now what? I uploaded the picture he sent and gave him credit (Blake Nelson). I also forwarded a copy of his email to Tim. Did I do this correctly? Do I need to do anything else?

You did it correctly, and there's nothing else you need to do!

I'd got that far.

However the picture that was uploaded was pretty quickly flagged down and quarentined - permission??

Other than notifying Tim/Abby where else should we let users know that a picturedoes have permission to be used? I had a look around and didn't see any guidance on this? Perhaps I missed it.

I'm just starting this picture game, it seems fun!

reading_fox, I've not looked into your particular image - but you must credit the creator/owner of the image, and include the text or a link to the text giving permission for the image to be used on LibraryThing (or other usage license).

More detail here: (link appears on the page where you browse and select a picture to upload).

If in doubt, check out some of the other author pictures to see what was entered into the copyright/permission fields.

Was your picture quarantined today? I don't see any in the quarantine.

When you post a picture with permission, indicate it in the copyright box with something along the line of:

"Permission granted by (name) to use picture on LT; e-mail forwarded to LT staff, (date)"

Phrasing may vary depending on who gives permission: author, photographer, etc. and if conditions are imposed by the person giving the permission.

"© 2007 Ron Hogan ""; permission granted by Ron Hogan to use photo to illustrate author page on LT with copyright notice and credit; e-mail forwarded to LT staff, May 3, 2007"

"Permission granted by David Silbey to use photo he provided to illustrate his author page on LT, May 1, 2007; e-mail forwarded to LT staff"

"Permission granted by Thomas Christensen to use his artwork to illustrate the author page for Ross Macdonald, April 4, 2007; e-mail forwarded to LT staff"

Well I cut a longer story shorter above.

I discovered that Janny Wurts had no picture, I went to her website, and left a request ( here).

By the time I got back, the next day, permission had been granted and another forum member had registered on LT and uploaded the photo - crediting copyright as requested - but unaware of the issues involved in permissions...

Any thoughts on where to go from here?

The picture seems to be back on the Blake Nelson author page. As far as I can see, everything is right and there is no reason to flag.

Kinda funny. The picture was posted by "trystane" but there are no books in the catalog for that user.

1. Go ahead and post your own picture with permission, or:
2. Contact trystane to correct that posting.

I'd do #1 (post the picture yourself, noting that you have the permission).
