How about Walter M. Miller Jr., who wrote A Canticle for Leibowitz? I know he did some short stories, too, but I don't think he published another novel ...

Actually, a sequel to Canticle called Saint Leibowitz and the Wild Horse Woman was published just a couple of years ago. I have yet to read it.

Miller Jr didn't finish this book, he shot himself having written most of it but it was finished by Terry Bisson. Not sure where that leaves him as a one hit wonder though.

Ack, I didn't realize that. :o(
I wonder how many authors/writer-wanna-bes have ended their own lives. I'm thinking it's a higher percentage than the general population. Does anyone know?

A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. Because he couldn't get his book published, he gassed himself in his car. His mother finally sold his book.
