Wow. Two-thirds through the month and no "What are you reading?" topic?

JF: King of the Lost and Found by John Lekich
Also JF: The Talented Clementine by Sara Pennypacker. For the Judy Moody crowd, younger audience than YA. Funny stuff.

CR: Mistik Lake by Martha Brooks
Also CR: In the know : the Classic Guide to Being Cultured and Cool by Nancy MacDonell

LF2: If a Tree Falls at Lunch Period by Gennifer Choldenko
Also LF2: Microtrends : the Small Forces Behind Tomorrow's Big Changes by Mark J. Penn
Also also LF2: Darkwing by Kenneth Oppel

Just finished The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie and just fell in love with it. I used to live in Spokane, Washington (where the novel is set), and I always love reading local works. Really well drawn characters. Pick it up!

The oddesy. Nothing like a classic of god politics for the holidays.

Survival of the sickest. A really cool book i'm reading for my bio class about why, after all these years do we still have diseases like sickle cell anemia and other genetics diseases. Why hasn't evolution taken care of them? (read to find out.)

I reread 13 reasonos why by Jay Asher. (love this book!! Everyone should read it!!)

I *loved* Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. Just finished Almost Home by Jessica Blank; am almost through with Uglies and I brought home Pretties and Specials; found one today that looks interesting called Petropolis by Anya Ulinich, and also brought home Sara's Face by Melvin Burgess. I'm going to have a busy winter break (for the next few days, anyway!).

I'm currently reading Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, an adult and modern spin on the L. Frank Baum classic. Next up is Heroes-- a graphic novel based on the show! Definitely looking forward to that!

Currently listening to My Sister's Keeper. I've read it twice, but the audio version adds a lot to the story. I'm definitely hooked on Audible.com now!

I started this month with The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Then Hoot by Carl Hiaasen. Then The Beekeeper's Apprentice, then Beauty Sleep by Cameron Dokey. I'm currently trying to get through the Uglies Trilogy just like #9. I'm in the middle of Specials right now.

A Note about the Uglies trilogy: Dear God! I have never seen a main character as constantly- changing as Tally. I don't even know who she is anymore. I know that's kind of the point, but it's really hard to keep up with. That said, the books are good, so I keep reading.

Also finished Slam by Nick Hornby this month. I've really liked a lot of his works. I was glad I read this one, but I'm not in love with it. Also very glad I picked it up from the library instead of purchasing this one.

Right now I'm reading Olive Kitteridge, my early reviewer book. Still not sure how I feel about it and I'm 100 pages in.

Right now I'm reading Christmas stories by Charles Dickens. I just finished A Christmas Carol, moving on now to The Chimes =)

I just realized I've had the book for a decade, and I haven't read it all through! Now's as good a time as any to crack it open; perhaps a better time, too!

#12: So true about Tally. I think that is kind of the point, to see how much of her stays constant even when she's being forcibly changed.

Hmm. What YA lit am I reading right now? let's see... (as I'm perusing my disorganized "pile" of books back from my dorm room... riight)

I think the only things I'm currently reading that could be counted as YA (since I recently finished my yearly re-read of Tamora Pierce's books) is Stardust, and possibly the manga I'm re-reading: Fruits Basket.

I had Coraline checked out from the library, but never got around to it. It's way overdue at this point (yes, my head is hanging), so I should probably read it, huh?

I'm also stalled about halfway through Lirael, and eagerly awaiting the paperback release of the sequels to Stephanie Meyer's Twilight.

..I way over-answered the question. I blame final papers. Yes.

ETA: I just started reading Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

I've read two books that I've liked a lot: Zipped by Laura McNeal, and especially Deep Secret by Berlie Doherty. The former was a fairly normal modern YA book but well executed; the latter was a quite beautiful, lyrical evocation of the destruction of a community, woven beautifully together with the tale of an identical twin's loss of her 'other half'--it treats personal and communal identity crises with a light touch. This second book was moving, unusual, masterfully written, should be better-known in the USA.

I also read Doing It by Melvin Burgess, which was almost unbearable, and Atonement by Ian McEwan which I thought was a kind of self-indulgent riff on L. P. Hartley 's The Go-Between and a much lesser book.

#20 annamorphic:

I loved Burgess' Smack and so I brought home this new one called Sara's Face and it's horrendous. Did you read Smack before reading Doing It? Sounds like his newer stuff isn't that great...

mess 20 &21

I have Smack on my TBR list, but I was reading younger teen books right now and I thought this was for much older teens. I haven't heard many reviews on Sara's Face, but I have read the Doing it was good.

I think Dec will be more children's books, not quite ya. But I was looking for fun fantasy. I want to find a list of most popular graphic novels.

I was wondering when this post would show up :-)

I started (again) The China Garden by Liz Berry. I think the last time I started this book I got side tracked by something that came in the mail and am just now getting back to it.
