Example The case of the gilded fly was also published as "Obsequies at Oxford" (and when I tried to touchstone this title, it touchstoned as "The case of the gilded fly"). Where is the place to put this data, or, since it seems to be already there for this book, where has this data been put?

when I have a book with an alternate title, I put it in my title in parentheses. Canaan Legacy which is also called Grave Designs in a later edition... (both touchstones point to the same book, too!! YAY!!)

I think this should be a field on Common Knowledge, though perhaps as two fields -- one for the "original" title and one for common alternates in the language for the branch of LT.
Alternate-Title Example:
Philip Pullman's The Golden Compass was originally published in the UK as Northern Lights. We could put the former in the "Common alternate title(s)" field and the latter in the "Original title" field.
Foreign-Language Title Example:
One book in my library is Molière's Les Précieuses Ridicules (in French). The touchstone comes up as The Pretentious Young Ladies, which presumably is what it's usually called in English. While this book wouldn't be much trouble on the French version of LT, it is here on the English one: for a while even my copy seemed to have the English title. With the fields as I described them, we could put "Les Précieuses Ridicules" in the "Original title" field and "The Pretentious Young Ladies" in the "Common alternate title(s)" field.

Many books have a different title for the British and American editions. There are probably enough books with alternate titles to make this a useful addition to the CK fields.

And notice that I said that the "Alternate titles" field should be for alternate titles in the language used on the branch of LT on which it appears. That means here on librarything.com it would be used for alternate titles in English (but not for the Portuguese or Slovenian ones). The Portuguese title would be given on the Portuguese version of LT and the Slovenian title would be given on the Slovenian version.
