I'd like to see how that decision would stand up in court, vis. Equality Act, 2010

These days student unions (in UK at least) seem seem increasingly small-minded and intolerant. But they are serving the 'snowflake' generation. In today's "The Times" (London) Catherine Nixey has a piece under the Thunderer column in which she says the Balliol students are only doing what Christians did from very early times. She claims that in AD388 arguing about religion in public was outlawed as a damnable audacity. She says Augustine observed with satisfaction the many pagan philosophical works had been suppressed. She is the author of a recently published book The Darkening World: The Christian Destruction of the Classical World. The title is a big hint on her attitude.

>3 PossMan:

The Classicists I've seen were *taking apart* that book.

>4 timspalding:: Well I wasn't recommending it. But it got fairly prominent reviews in the press recently. I haven't bought it and will almost certainly never read it. I'm a great believer in free speech and disagree with much that is happening in our universities today such as the no-platforming of speakers. I mentioned it because it seemed relevant to the topic.

Pretty small stuff, on the whole, compared to what's happening in Washington, DC, where a few right-wing factions are suggesting that religious beliefs supersede Constitutional guarantees.
