Heaven-Ali and I and 2 of our friends are reading an IM novel a month, in chronological order of when they were published.

This month it's Under the Net. I thought I might post a summary of our thoughts here, but anyone else care to join in?

Summary of our thoughts:

Well we all read it and had a lovely discussion on our yahoo group. I, having read all of the books, suggested several themes that might come out in later ones too, and the others suggested what might fit in with them.

In general, we thought it was a good first novel and well written, there were parts that seemed a bit bolted-on and over-written (esp the betting scene and the one at the film set), it didn't fit the "Angry Young Man" theme that it was set into at the time, and we are looking forward to the rest of them.

I began reading Under the Net yesterday while sitting in hospital with mother in surgery. 95 and undergoing cancer surgery. Thankfully she came out of it very well. I was quite worried about her being put completely out but the worry was for naught. At any rate, I am enjoying the book so far. What a sponge and manipulator this dude is. Looking forward to reading a few more pages when I go to bed if I can keep my eyes open long enough. And as it is past 1:00 A.M., I suppose I should head that way.

Thank you Lucy.
The read is very slow going for me as I have had relatively no time for reading. Got mother home from the hospital (5 hour round trip) and she is doing great! Then had to turn around and head out to SeaTac the next day to pick up my daughter from Dallas. She hasn't been home for over 5 years. She gets to stay for a whole week with all of the kids, grands, nieces & nephies coming in for the weekend. Then I leave for the Philly meet-up the same day she leaves for home. So I probably won't get back to it until I return from Philly and get some rest. I am just too old for all of this running and yesterday was an 8 hour road trip for us. Arghhhhhhh; almost too tired to enjoy her last night. lol!~!

I'm exhausted just reading about it. Safe travels.
