I have a customer who is looking for a book she was read as a child, so it's probably from the 60s or 70s.
It was about a black street cat who saw a star.
He convinced all the other cats to start a convoy and follow the star to go find the new king.
It's a Christmas book... but we can't seem to find the title or who it is by.

It has a picture of a black cat on the cover.

Anyone know about this book??

Thank-you in advanced for any assistance you can provide.

Spent some time looking, and all I've come up with is The Witness, and that's not it.

May keep poking at this, as I love the odd nativity stories.

Three Wise Cats comes up in my searching, but that's a recent publication.

Perhaps The Cat Who Knew the Meaning of Christmas (1972)? There is a scanned copy including cover art (which does show a black cat) available on Archive.org https://archive.org/details/catwhoknewmean00grem

The Christmas Cat by Holland (1987) seems an even better match. https://archive.org/details/christmascat00holl

Three Wise Cats is a chapter book. The cover features all three, two of whom are black.

I borrowed The Christmas Cat (1987). It is indeed a street cat who makes his way to the nativity stable, but his companions are a stray dog and a donkey.
