Spiritual book - woman speaks to group soul of the Japanese Beetle midway thru

Hello all. My father has been looking for this book for over 10 years and thinks it's a lost cause but I haven't given up hope yet.
This is what he remembers:
The book is about a woman who grew up in severe poverty. When she was in her late teens a faceless hooded spirit appeared to her and made her stand by a river and told her what words she could never use again. I think she then had to write the words down on paper and throw the paper into the river.
The spirit then began teaching her about Astral Projection and she would be given assignments to help the recently deceased transition to the other side. Then at some point she was taught how to create things I believe starting with feces(?) and then eventually living things like flowers - my father specifically remembers her creating roses.
She also had a garden I believe that was infested with moles and Japanese Beetles and such - and she apparently met with the group souls/Devas representing the Japanese Beetle. I believe she said the Japanese beetle was the saddest group soul she ever spoke with since everyone despised them. But she made friends with them and offered them vegetation to eat that was not a part of her garden and then next day all the beetles were gone.
That's about all he can remember. It was written in the 80s he thinks.
Any help with this one?
Thanks very much.
