SantaThing Donations 2018

With great pleasure I am kicking off the 2018 SantaThing Donation Thread!
We have some rules this year for the donation thread!
After some thought about the concerns raised around donations over the last couple years, we've decided to adjust our policy regarding SantaThing donations. Members will be eligible for SantaThing donations if they meet the following two criteria:
- They must have been a member for at least two months (so, their account must have been created no later than September 15, 2018).
- They must have at least 50 books cataloged in their account.*
*Suggestions! If you are in a rut with this one and unsure how to get your book amount up try this! Add books to your wishlist or books you have read but do not own. As long as the overall count is over 50 then you are good to go!
The former is not easy to get around, but it is fairly easy to add more books to one's account if you're not quite at the 50 book threshold yet. Should someone in this situation request a donation, either Mellymel171328 or lorannen will contact them directly to encourage them to beef up their catalog first.
I'm sorry that it's come to this, but we had to draw the line somewhere. Donating members have expressed valid concerns over the years about donations going to accounts that are essentially empty, which additionally makes the recipient very difficult to pick gifts for. I welcome feedback about this shift in policy.
Please feel free to ask if you are in need of a donation! If you want to become a secret santa and give an anonymous donation please feel free to message me directly. :)

You know I never get this part right. Is there where I would ask for a donation for Rylan?
I usually give a donation (some years even a totally anonymous donation :-) as well as the usual Santa Thing.
Guess I'll wait a bit longer today until I see the range of monies involved this year.
PS. I have suggested a "Badge" for Secret Santas for several years, just cos...
I'm in favour of those policy changes. Opportunists exploiting the kindness of strangers doesn't sit well with me.
>10 karenb: yes, just send me a message. If the person doesn't want to be mentioned on the list I completely understand.
Alas, after participating as a member & donating most years, i need to request being sponsored this year!
Hi everyone! I would love a donation, if not for me, then my 7 year old daughter. I had to leave work because of health and we're having a hard time. Thank you for your consideration!
I need a donation to participate. This has got to be one of the highlights of my year!
Dealing with painful chronic health issues and loss of job - donation would be very much appreciated if possible. Thank you!
I hate to ask, but I'd be very grateful if someone was kind enough to donate to me. I haven't been able to have new books in so long because I lost my job and my husband is in grad school. Some books would really mean the world to me right now.
>22 vivirielle: Don't feel bad! This is the reason why the thread is made in the first place. :) I have a message coming your way very soon.
>24 kkelm22: sure. I have one sitting in my inbox that I can send you. :)
Is there any I could get a donation this year? I hate asking since I got a donation last year, also. I was hoping to be in a better place by now and be able to really give back and help others. I'm still not able to work since my hip replacements and disability is taking forever to get since I'm only 26. :( Reading is everything to me and I'd love to be able to participate and feel the joy.
>26 kaliwrites: yes, of course. I will be sending you a code first thing in the morning.
I want to donate this year (after being a recipient a couple of years ago - thank you!). How do I do that? Thanks!
>30 InsightsintoBooks: I will put you on the list. I am sure another will come out way. :)
I look forward to this every year! I need a donation please and thank you!
I would appreciate a donation for myself and/or my husband, if possible. This has been a particularly difficult year with family issues, and SantaThing brightens up the year. If not, that is okay.
I have got an uncharacteristically higher then normal requests on my personal page for donations. I know some people are bashful about asking but it makes me a little uncomfortable because to make it fair I keep the donations in the order I receive them and then give them out in the order their asked to keep it fair.
I would like to make a donation again this year but have forgotten the process
Can I request a donation, please? I've been wanting to participate for the past couple years but I'm on disability and never have the money. This year has been tighter than usual, so this would make my Xmas.
>42 fionaanne: I have a code that will be in your messages first thing in the morning.
I'd like to request a donation, please. I haven't been as active on LT for a bit, things have been rough health wise but this is certainly a bright spot.
>51 Jenni_Canuck: I have a donation for you. I'll try to send it soon.
I am sorry I am dragging my feet. I havent forgotten about you two.
>52 mellymel171328: Thank you and thanks to the generous LTers who make this possible.
I keep humming and hawing over this as I'm not in dire straights but money is tight and I would like to participate. I'm going to school but also on disability. Fingers crossed that I'll be able to work enough to support things once school is done (library tech in training. ;))
Thanks! Are all prices in USD by default? Wondering how to work out exchange if that's a thing.
Thanks! I was wondering about that for selecting my preferred store as well, since I expect Amazon.ca might have different shipping (and it's local to me), but Amazon.com might be easier numbers wise. Not sure if there's a preference.
I would sincerely appreciate being able to participate via a donation. Thanks so much!
I would very much appreciate a donation. I have been a member since 2006 and have close to 5,000 items cataloged. If anything I think the rules could require a longer membership, say 6 months. Thank you.
>67 pmarshall: of course. I will take the longer time into consideration for next year. I will send you a message very soon.
If it's not too late , I'd like to ask for a donation for me and my little cousin. :)
I'm currently not living at home and didn't have any internet before today, so I only just saw this santathing for this year.
Sign ups have been extended for 24 hours! If anyone has any questions please feel free to message me.
I would much appreciate a donation. Finances are tight this year.
I'm very late to this, but it's been a rough year -- my dad's been out of a job for two years, I've had troubles finding a job between my health issues and medical insurance fun, we're not sure about our housing situation, my mom just got diagnosed with cancer, my sister's transmission broke, and a whole other horde of things that has made this year very hard. If there's any help left, I'd really appreciate it.
What another awesome year for Santa Thing! :) Yall are all awesome.
>80 mellymel171328: Hear hear! And hats off to you for running this thread!
>81 lorannen: it is honestly a pleasure and I look forward to doing it.
