Heh, small world!!! Been going religiously for a few decades. I was there first thing in the morning, waited in the cold for an hour, but it was worth it coz I got what I was looking for pretty quickly. Then i came back at 6 and just browsed and found all sorts of treasures!

We should try to meet up there sometime!

I did have to laugh that you got Go As Alice. I was one of its target audience - 16 and very gullible, the book scared me to death. Found out the story it self wasn't true, and should have been sold a fiction. Be interesting to read it as an adult.

Received an uncorrected proof for The Wall by John Lanchester. (There doesn't seem to be a touchstone for book currently, so here's the link: https://www.librarything.com/work/22303700).

From Library The Book Shop by Penelope Fitzgerald, Reading the preface makes me want to follow up on this author.

Jan 7, 2019, 6:13 pm

>21 aussieh: Penelope Fitzgerald's 9 novels and 3 biographies (her collective biography of her father and his three brothers, The Knox Brothers, is a special favorite of mine) are terrific. Her life and work (there is also a book of short stories and a book of essays) are definitely worth exploring. Hermione Lee published a biography of Fitzgerald a few years ago -- it is excellent and gives insight into each of her novels. I hope you enjoy The Book Shop -- it was my introduction to this author, too.

Today I went to my favorite locally owned used bookstore and I got Good Omens by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett for my book club.
While there I also picked up The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley. It was almost chosen for book club, but I still wanted to read it even though it wasn't selected.

Pirate, I can't wait to hear what you think about it! BTW its supposed to be a TV series David Tennant and Michael Sheen in March on Amazon Prime. Might just be worth my while to finally sign up for Prime....(which book club btw?)

Still waiting for the new Richard Power book - they were out when I went for the New Years Day sale, sold out of another shipment and are now waiting for a third. I know its popular but man its taking a while (yeah as if I didn't have 6 books precariously stacked on my TBR shelf already)

My book club consists of teachers I used to work with and currently work with. We have been together for almost 15 years. You're welcome to join us!

I was on my way to knitting the other day and passed a box of books. (This is a normal way of accessioning books in my neighborhood; there are a lot of readers here and it's easier to put a few books on the stoop wall along the sidewalk than it is to figure out where it's most "impactful" to donate it.) So, of course, I went through the books and went to knitting with a new book, The Lais of Marie de France -- because that choice is not the least bit nerdy at all.
