The Secret History

This was an assigned book for a Medieval studies course in college. I had to write a paper on it, and those books are normally not as interesting as the professor thinks, but this book had some crazy stories that I would have never expected to read.

>2 StephaniePettry: Thanks for mentioning this. Had come across author's name but hadn't bothered to look into his works. Now I think I'll be bothering to read one of them.

I was at first horrified by & indignant about a professor of medieval studies assigning a best-seller about contemporary American college students, though. I guess I'm a philistine who forgets that one's supply of indignation should be marshalled strictly.

I didn't think I was going to like The Summer Tree by GG Kay, but after a slow start I tore through it and was frantic to get the second one in the series!

The Jewel in the Crown. I really do have to read the rest of the series one of these days.

I was put off of Charles Dickens after some forced reading in grade school. I recently gave Great Expectations a try, and maybe now I'm better prepared to appreciate it because I found it quite excellent. I didn't really enjoy The Old Curiosity Shop - it seemed to just ramble about and not go anywhere - but I intend to try some others that have come highly recommended.
