Set around 1910s, 1920s? Main character’s name might have been Harriet and she’s the companion for a rich man’s wife. The wife runs off with her lover and the rich man marries Harriet so she can continue helping with his teenage/young adult daughter and son (daughter might be named Nina). Harriet and her husband eventually fall in love with each other.

The book was on Project Gutenberg or a similar site so it was published long enough ago that the copyright has expired.
