Found: Bounty hunter thriller/mystery

My M-I-L is trying to remember a series she read around 2000. About a bounty hunter working for a bails bond man. Someone is named Ranger. A supporting character is a large black woman named Lola/Lulu/Lara???. Set either south or southwest US. She knows there's more than one but not how many.

It's the Stephanie Plum series, set in New Jersey, and there are currently 27 books.
