Found: YA Blue Creatures suck life out of people

I read this book less than two years ago. It had a slight dystopian element and it was about 3 or 4 kids (I think one of them was a bit older) who were the only ones who could see the blue creatures. In the very beginning, one of them lived in an testing facility for products where the bunk beds were really tall (like 20 levels) because there were so many orphans, and he had to climb up a ladder to get there. There was another boy, not part of their group, who the orphans called "The Medic" or "The Doctor", and he helped them with their rashes from the various products. In the very end of the book I think they found out that the creatures weren't bad, but they helped ease people's pain.
