Thinking about crossposting this thread in the BookCrossing Group just in case someone looking through likes a book I read and wants to go find it in the world. Dunno yet.
Also I got how to make bold but I've seen people put star icons in posts and I can't find any explanation of how ^^; kind stranger reading this, might you know ..?

OK ACTUAL BOOKS NOW
Going to Water I was reading for the second time, and it blew me away once again. Like magic, conversations and thoughts I'd have in my day-to-day about the nature of life and people and the world would come up when I opened the book. Only it's not magic... it's something very big and crazy that I understand a little bit more every time I read this. Highly recommend to everyone, ever!
The Akira series is just awesome, the art and character depth blows my mind. Excited to read the second half, devoured the first half in time to watch it in theaters at this local classic movie event and I was so glad I had both to consider ! Of course had to go find the YouTube video with the dubbed-over interviews with the production team for more impressive details. Always great to revisit
Diaspora's Children helped me understand a nuance around the veteran experience, particularly for Indigenous vets, that I struggle(d) to grasp. It's a complex ethical topic that Rushworth handles with his usual skill and approachable tone, while maintaining complexity and depth if you pay attention. Manages to balance an extremely personal scope with a global scope with a sense of unification that permeates all his work.
The Galaxy, and the Ground Within was like being reintroduced to Sci-Fi - I don't think I've read any since I was a kid, and I was delighted by the rich characters and worldbuilding (with a refreshingly casual, yet well-executed element of queer themes to boot). The ending made me blink, like, "wait, it's over?" but I 100% enjoyed spending 300 pages just hanging out in the Wayfarer universe. From what I've heard this may be a strange introduction to the series, but such is the destiny of the yard sale book bin.

>3 alex.rothb: I don't want to take up your thread that you've started but just wanted to say welcome to the group. Hope you enjoy your books and we're all interested in what you are reading. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. If I don' t know the answer I'm sure someone here does. Or as my old supervisor drummed into us to say, "I don't know but I will be happy to find out for you".

>2 alex.rothb: Hi Alex, welcome to the group, ☺️.
If by ‘star icons’ you mean something like this: ★ - I , personally, just copy and paste from my own previous posts whenever I want to use one to grade my books. (I can’t remember where I originally got the ★ from, ha!, but you’re welcome to copy and paste it, if you like; just as, I’m sure, you’d be welcome to copy and paste from anyone else’s posts around the site, if there’s one that you’d prefer.)
Happy Reading!

>4 Carol420: Take up the thread :D Forums are for talking to people (or maybe that's not what these booklogs are typically for... At any rate I'm okay with it). Thanks for the warm welcome 🫂
>5 Sergeirocks: Oh yeah, that looks like a simple Unicode character... I don't remember what I was looking for originally, so that works ★★★★★ thank you !

>6 alex.rothb: I try to put a place for chats in each of the groups that I do monthly topics for, but I don't think anyone minds comments anywhere. If they do, they'll say "no comments here please" or something similar.
