Litsy Bot Attacks

Ok, bot attacks might be rather melodramatic, but I have noticed an influx of followers to my account who follow exactly 150 people, post nothing, have no entries on Read Books, and one book To Read. It appears to be bot activity, and others are saying they've also noticed the same pattern. Is this something I, or Litsy and Library Thing, should be worried about?

That activity on social media typically means there's a political propaganda or commercial campaign being prepped. The purpose of the campaign is usually unclear for a few months, until the accounts are no longer new. Then the entire group-- for example, 100+ accounts that follow each other plus the same initial list of targets-- will start pushing what they were set up to get trending/visible.

You might already know this. Just saying, I think it's activity to be wary of, and maybe LibraryThing should worry about it a little.

Can you block accounts in Litsy?

Yes, you can block accounts on Litsy. On mobile:
1. Go to the profile page of the account you want to block.
2. Tap the button in the top-right corner with the three horizontal lines.
3. In the dialog box that appears, tap Block User.

Iā€™m away from my computer but can check tomorrow how to block people on desktop.

It's even easier to block a user on desktop.
Just go to the profile page of the account you want to block - there's a 'Block User' button on the upper right side (to the right of the username). ...

>2 aspirit: Thank you for your explanation: interesting and useful šŸ™‚ I've sent a message within Litsy and, as it's run by LT, thought posting here might also act as an alert, though perhaps I should find a specific Spam Alert message thread šŸ¤”

I've had a handful of new followers on Litsy in the last couple of weeks whose sole activity is following accounts (typically 144) - they don't like posts, they don't add books and they don't post. I haven't blocked any of them yet in case they're genuine users who just happen to be a bit shy, but it does look fishy...

>8 Dilara86: I've noticed the same - that it's 144 followers rather than 150 as they initially appeared. I've not noticed any other "weird" activity from those accounts, but it is weird in itself.

Oh and my other half's just informed me that 144 is a gross :-D

>11 Dilara86: I did wonder if Litsy was giving a randomly-chosen pre-set number of friends to be members, but from casual observation that doesn't seem to be the case, though I haven't exerted myself to really observe.
