jpg vs jpeg

It's not the hugest of problems, but when I try to grab a cover picture or an author picture from the web and it's coded as jpeg instead of jpg on the source, it won't upload.

Good report! Can you link me to a recent image you've tried to upload, so I can test this out?

>2 kristilabrie: Recent example, author picture of Marianne Cense. Couldn't grab it from her professional page - https://rutgers.nl/auteur/marianne-cense/ - so I downloaded it, made it a jpg (instead of a jpeg) and uploaded it to LT. So there is a workaround. But...

>3 Nicole_VanK: made it a jpg

Did you re-save the file with an image editor, or simply rename the file extension from .jpeg to .jpg ?

I simply renamed it, and that worked. I do have imaging software too though.

>3 Nicole_VanK: Okay, that's bizarre. The image at https://rutgers.nl/auteur/marianne-cense/ is showing up as .jpg for me: https://rutgers.nl/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Mariannecense_420-500x500.jpg

Could that have been the issue?

Bizarre indeed then. I will let you know when I run into another issue like this. (Obviously I deleted most examples, because once uploaded to LT I don't need those pictures on my device anymore). But I run into this kind of thing several times a month.

FWIW, I can confirm the problem, although I hadn't worried about it either. I've at least once, and I think several times, tried to upload a book cover with a .jpeg extension, failed, changed it to .jpg, and had it succeed.

It might be worth just having people try a .jpeg extension on the next photo they upload and see what happens. Which is what I will do the next time I upload a cover, assuming this hasn't been fixed by then. (I don't have any cover photos awaiting upload at the moment, unfortunately.)

That's very odd. Passing to conceptDawg.

I cannot reproduce this. I've pulled images from the web with .jpeg endings. I've also uploaded images directly from my computer with .jpeg endings. Both worked without issue.

If you can reproduce with a particular URL then I'll revisit. Until now, I'm closing this one.

I'm going to close this for now because I can't reproduce. Also the upload tool on works should be getting an overhaul within the next few weeks.
