I am truly a weirdness magnet. The guy approached me going "Shorts? Shorts?"

I smiled pleasantly and said "Yes, I am wearing shorts, they are very comfortable."

He held up the plastic bag full of loose underwear and said "Shorts? $15 dollars? Shorts? $15 dollars?"

As politely as I could I smiled and said "No thanks, got plenty."

Does this sort of thing happen to other people?

100Severn
Jun 25, 2008, 9:39 pm

Not exactly....

I was waiting for a bus two days ago when I guy walked past and said:

'Can I be naughty and say the buses are on strike?'

??

Hm....what else weird has happened.

I have a bit of an evil eye when it comes to 'weird'. One look at me and they usually scarper. The 'f... off' they get in their face if they come too close, despite the evil eye, works too. I guess it's a self-preservation thing. I'm not a mean person at all - I feed homeless people sometimes and things, and look after animals - I just don't like weird, potentially-threatening people in my space yanno? They give me the heebies.

That gruds guy would have terrified me hehe.

Thank you Bookmarque. My asthma is not sever so far, and not chronic.. I have problems when there are chemicals in the air, and in certain weather...I have gone weeks without problems. A big problem for me is getting kids off of th e buses when the air is very cold, or very hot.. the buses build up noxious fumes and it laid me out today.. no breathing, headache, cough...
bleh

So far the albuterol works great. I appreciate the info though! And I am glad you are having good results with the meds you take.

Oh, gotcha, very different triggers than I have. Good that it's a mild case as well. We had no good drugs when I was a little kid in the early 70s and sometimes I had attacks that lasted 24-36 hours. Once I went into respiratory arrest and flatlined. Had pneumonia. Lung infections. Hospital stays (once on Christmas - damn that stupid tree). Major suckage. So glad for good drugs now. Even if I didn't have health insurance, they would be worth the price.

Stayed up all night - going on 25 hours of awake time, just so I could screen the Dark Night at the theater I work for after we closed last night! So not sorry now - but I will be around noon when I still have 5 hours of work left....

Spent $400 that I really don't have to take my 12-year old baseball-obsessed nephew to the All Star Game.

Not sry.

The funny thing is, it was a three-part cool day. Part 1 was the All Star Fan Fest at the Javitz Center, Part 2 was an invitation only pre-game gala at Randall's Island with Joan Jett and the Black Hearts and the Village People, Part 3 was the All Star Game.

He was having so much fun at the Fan Fest that he made the mistake of whining about having to go to the Randall's Island Party. Man, I stopped him in his tracks, turned him around to face me and said

"You WILL not whine. You don't HAVE to go to the party, but since I am going to the party and then right to the All Star Game, you can either leave now and come with me, or stay here with your mom and miss the All Star Game completely."

He wisely shut the hell up, heee heeeeee!!!

Oh! And he had a blast at the party, so not sry!

I've lazed luxuriously in bed almost every morning for all of July, reveling in each moment free of the slavery to the clock that is my usual lot. Avoided unnecessary housework and cooking. Gloried in the joy of reading whatever the heck I wanted to rather than the economics texts I schlepped home back in June (b/c I have to teach a basic econ. class next January -- ugh! doubled!). NOT AT ALL SRY!

Or to quote a classic favorite of mine: "I did nothing at all today, and it was everything I ever thought it could be." Heaven.

BTW -- did any of you also have parents and teachers who thought reading for pleasure was "doing nothing"? Did you get in trouble for reading when you could have been doing something "constructive", like building an igloo out of used carrot cans or creating a baking soda volcano or scrubbing the shower tile grout with a toothbrush? Just wondered. Those old tapes still run once in a while in my head.

#150 - Me! Me! Frantically raising my hand!

I had a teacher express concern to my mother once because I was getting so many books from the library. I was always very active in school (clubs, cheerleading, softball, basketball), but apparently too much reading concerned this teacher!

I have been known to give extra credit points in math or social studies for reading and testing over books from the suggested reading list. Ssshhhhh....don't tell the other math teachers!

ETA - For those concerned that I may not be teaching math appropriately, don't be! If a few points added to a homework assignment or quiz gets a child to read, then it's worth the effort! NOT sry!

For some reason, I got the idea the mckait's solution for plantars facitis was new shoes and lemon merangue pie.

Actually, those two ingredients should cure most of what ails you.
