Hey guys,

I started this in Combiners, but figured I'd have better luck here.

Is Isaac Asimov's The 1,000 Year Plan the same as Foundation or is it some sort of abridged version?

Not positive, but I believe Foundation was the orignal, serialized title. It was retitled to 1000 Year Plan for at least an early Ace edition (I've got two different in my collection: D-110 and D-138) but from memory I think there's some disclaimer that it's been shortened (may make sense if it was 1/2 of an ace double).

I have been looking at ISFDB. foundation seems to come in at between 189 and 256 pages, 1,000 year plan at 160. So it could be abridged or just printed denser. ISFDB lists 100 year plan as a variant title.

Foundation intself is a collection of earlier printed stories.
Foundation (a.k.a. The Encyclopedists) 1942
Bridle and Saddle (a.k.a. The Mayors) 1942
The Wedge (a.k.a. The Traders) 1944
The Big and the Little (a.k.a. The Merchant Princes) 1944

In my ca. 1965 omnibus Foundation Trilogy (SFBC, of course), Foundation has five parts: "The Psychohistorians", "The Encyclopedists", "The Mayors", "The Traders", and "The Merchant Princes". My recollection of my very thin paperback 1,000 Year Plan is that at least part 5, and maybe also part 4, had been left out. Not an Ace Double, just abridged. Did that make sense? No, but abridgements like that were very common in that era.

That paperback is in storage. I'm hoping to clean out that storage area this fall and winter, so maybe it'll turn up then.

I'll just leave them as separate works I guess and let someone with more knowledge than me deal with it.

I just made two series: Foundation - Chronological and Foundation - Publication. For now I've just included both Foundation and The 1,000 Year Plan in both series.
