As you may know, some LibraryThing members are working on building a free alternative to the Dewey decimal system. (http://www.librarything.com/wiki/index.php/Open_Shelves_Classification)

We are currently discussing the recently-released draft of the top-level categories and attempting to sort out subcategories.

Economics is one of the top-level categories. Anyone interested in what subcategories should be used to organize books about economics can join the discussion here: http://www.librarything.com/topic/58512
