I am for some reason obsessed with books about books. I love them! "Shadow of the wind"; "Secret of lost things"; Book of lost things"; The Club Dumas"; The neverending story"; "The book of air and shadows"; "Inkheart series"; Probably a few more I'm forgetting that I've read. Any good ones out there I'm missing??

I LOVED Shadow of the Wind, one of my all-time favorites.
People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks is a good one.

Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series, starting with The Eyre Affair takes place in a parallel world where everyone is obsessed with books and characters are able to enter books.

The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett - what happens when the Queen of England become an avid reader.

Italo Calvino's If on a Winter's Night a Traveler is about you trying and mostly failing to read If on a Winter's Night a Traveler.

Endymion Spring is excellent, sort of in the vein of the Inkheart series as I recall.

There are of course a lot of nonfiction books about books that might or might not interest you... A Passion for Books, The Book on the Bookshelf, books by Nick Hornby and Nicholas A. Basbanes...

ETA: Possession: A Romance is about discovering a romance between two (fictional) historical authors, and probably qualifies.

Ah, my child! You have warmed the cockles of my heart! Books about Books is my favorite genre also. I couldn't possibly list them all here, but if you go to my Profile Page and expand the TAGS list, find the appropriate tag, and revel the splendor that unfolds before you.

Although not strictly /about/ books, there is a lot of that feel to it (and a lot of very lovely passages about books): The Thirteenth Tale

Thanks, WHL! Fantastic! I wish I could fgure out how to set up my profile page like that! =o)

Great suggestions also!

Thanks also to everyone, I'm chomping at the bit to head to the used book store! (my other home! =o) God love Amazon.com, but I could never replace walking into a used book store! Leather, musty, dust, mildew, age, typeprint, the thrill of wondering who used to own this book, where it came from, it's history, etc. Ah, book romanticism!

Tom Raabe's Biblioholism: The Literary Addiction is hilarious and a great delight to read, and I think somebody already mentioned A Gentle Madness: Bibliophiles, Bibliomanes, and the Eternal Passion for Books (which, alas, I have not yet read, but it is well rated).

How about The Bookseller of Kabul? More recent copies include sample questions for book groups -- very helpful.

Another great book about books, plus a link to a detailed discussion about it:

The Day They Came to Arrest the Book

This would also make a great book to include in readings for Banned Books Week.

Even though it's a children's book, adults can enjoy it too: Inkheart. I'm rereading it now, so I can read the sequels.

I'm reading The City of Dreaming Books right now. It's great and pretty funny, especially for book lovers. It's up there with the Thursday Next novels.

This is slightly off-topic (ie Books about books as opposed to stories about books), but I agree with FFortuna and Essa. Nicholas Basbanes has written 3 or 4 excellent books.

Check out the LT Group Books on Books. There are dozens of titles there.
