1. Dune by Frank Herbert
I had never read this before. I read the Robert Jordan Wheel of Time Series, and decided I wanted to explore the whole Fantasy Sci Fi genre more.
Paul Atreides was a very cool character to follow, I liked the World created, I liked a lot of the characters especially Thufir Hawat, and Stilgar.
The story on an overall seems fairly standard fare for Fantasy/Sci Fi, i.e. The savior faces difficulties, rallies unlikely allies, and has his revenge, but the characters really did make this book more than just that.

2. The Burglar who liked to quote Kipling by Lawrence Block
I really enjoy Bernie Rhodenbarr, but Ive never gotten my hands on a number of the books.
In this one Bernie is set up(what else?) to steal a extremely rare book written by Rudyard Kipling. By the time he gets done dealing with a Maharaja, a conman, and a killer, Ive been chuckling non stop for a couple of hours.

3. Northern Lights by Phillip Pullman (aka The Golden Compass
This book was great. The main character is a girl name Lyra Belacqua. Daughter of 2 very nasty scientists/scholars, she spends most of this novel trying to save her playmate who has been kidnapped by "Gobblers". Shes a kid, and a funny one who behaves like a kid, not a adult in a small body. She reminds me of all my nieces, with her sulkiness, inventiveness, and sometimes silliness.
This book also has one of the best names for a character I have ever heard, Iorek Byrnisson who is a Giant armored Polar Bear. If someone told me just that sentence before I read the book, I would have read it simply for that.
Next up is Dune Messiah and after that I'll do The Subtle Knife

4. The Power Broker by Stephen Frey
I enjoyed it....extremely implausible, occasionaly poorly written, but very fast moving, and fun. But unless you enjoy slightly shlocky stuff you arent going to like this all that much.

Did a few rereads over the last few days, first The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan
The Wheel of time is my favourite series, though Im new to fantasy/sci fi as a genre. This is the first book of the series. A fairly basic plot Farm Boy and his companions are taken away from idyllic village by powerful sorcereress. The farm boy turns out to be "important" in the fight against the Dark One.
Its not about the plot though. Interesting characters, and ridiculously complicated and detailed backstory are what make this set of books my favourite.

Been awhile since I added to this list. But Ive read a bit in the interim
Reread all of the Wheel of Time series.
6. The Great Hunt
7. The Dragon Reborn
8. The Shadow Rising
9. The Fires of Heaven
10. The Lord of Chaos
11. The Crown of Swords
12. The Path of Daggers
13. Winters Heart
14. Crossroads of Twilight
15. Knife of Dreams
16. New Spring
I really enjoyed The Wheel of Time series a second time. Theres so much detail in there, that a second read didnt feel repetitious at all. In terms of the books themselves, 1-7 are awesome. I could wish that the story in 8, 9, and 10 be wrapped up in two or even one book. But the pace picks up with 11 again.
