I'm a fencer who likes to read, been fencing foil recreationally for nearly two years, and excited to find there's a LT group for fencers.

I did notice that this group hasn't been very active. With the group creator's permission, I've invited other LT members who hold books on fencing in their libraries to consider joining. So, maybe some other fencers will show up here as well.

Searching tags to find members with fencing books, I noticed that Richard Cohen's book, By the Sword: A History of Gladiators, Musketeers, Samurai, Swashbucklers, and Olympic Champions seems to be the most widely held. Seems that the members of my salle mention it frequently, as well, often as the only book on fencing they've read. I'm looking forward to hearing what fencing books other group members recommend.

Maggie, what kind of recommendations are you looking for? My books are pretty specialized and some are geared towards pedagogy rather than competition, but the relevant ones are tagged "fencing" in my catalog. (-:,

"What kind of recommendations..." What books do you find particularly useful, insightful, and/or well-written? Which do you turn to again and again? Any you would grab on the way out the door when the house is on fire?
