Anyone up for resurrecting this game? For some reason this tune got into my head yesterday and won't go away.

You could have done something
But you didn't try
You didn't do nothing
You let her walk by

2AnnieMod
Jan 9, 2010, 1:19 pm

Sounds like "Winchester Cathedral"... New Vaudeville something was the band.

PS: Had I ever mentioned the crazy teacher one of the years in school that decided that the best way to learn English is to translate songs?

3Jim53
Jan 9, 2010, 2:28 pm

That's the one, Annie. Got another? Preferably not in Bulgarian.

4AnnieMod
Jan 9, 2010, 2:35 pm

Russian then? :d Just joking

That should be easy:

You know I work all day,
To get you money to buy you things,
And it's worth it just to hear you say,
You're gonna give me ev'rything,
So why on earth should I moan,
'Cos when I get you alone,
You know I feel okay.

Of course. :) Over to you.

Jan 9, 2010, 3:38 pm

Thanks Annie. This is probably the first and last time I'll ever guess this game correctly. I can never remember the words to songs.

We're caught in a trap
I can't walk out because I love you to much baby
Why can't you see what you're doing to me
When you don't believe a word I say?
We can't go on together ....

8AnnieMod
Jan 9, 2010, 3:42 pm

... with suspicion minds :)

"Suspicious minds" - Elvis Presley. Believe it or not - that's what is running here at the moment. Talk about coincidences.

9socialpages
Jan 9, 2010, 3:49 pm

You got it Annie. Elvis is fabulous and never seems to date.

10AnnieMod
Jan 9, 2010, 3:53 pm

Absolutely - together with Beatles if you ask me. :) OK - something else that should be easy enough (what I am listening to at the moment):

When the waters is rough
The sailing is tough
I'll get drowned in your love
You've got a cut throat crew
I'm gonna sink under you
I got the bell bottom blues,
It's gonna be the death of me.

11Thrin
Jan 9, 2010, 5:20 pm

I think it's The Rolling Stones. Could the name of the song be "When the water is rough, the sailing is tough"?

12AnnieMod
Jan 9, 2010, 5:30 pm

Right band, wrong title:)

13Thrin

yep - your turn.

Ancient? Hm...

15Thrin
Jan 9, 2010, 8:11 pm

> 14 AnnieMod... "Ancient".... Me, not you or anyone else on this thread!

"..... And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave

Hope I've got the words right. That's what I sing anyway (in the privacy of my own home).

Here's lyrics to another song by the same band... For an answer, I'll accept the name of the band and the title of either song.

One two, princes kneel before you, that's what I said now
Princes, princes who adore you, just go ahead now

This one might be a little tougher, but maybe not...

And what about your friends
Do you care what people say?
Will you accept the burdens
I know will surely come your way?
Maybe I shouldn't worry,
But I've been through this before
And I'd like to get things straight
Before I'm knocking on your door.

and for extra credit ;-), and a moderately interesting piece of trivia, name the group's guitarist, who co-wrote the song

55AnnieMod
Jan 17, 2010, 4:23 pm

"Does Your Mama Know About Me" -- "Bobby Taylor & the Vancouvers" (or was it one of the earlier names? naah - I am almost sure this was the debut single of the new group)

And the guitarist is Tommy Chong.

This one is too easy:

"I want you,
I need you,
but there ain't no way
I'm ever gonna' love you."

It always makes me cry -- no personal reason, I just always get into music. When I listen, I want everyone to be quiet, so I can really listen. I'm not fond of background music. Well, maybe in an office or something similar but not at home.

61AnnieMod

Your turn.

By the way, maybe we should let anyone who wants to be next if the next person hasn't answered in a certain length of time. Could be more people will play if they don't have to wait for the next set of lyrics, and we can't always respond immediately. What do you think?

69AnnieMod
Jan 18, 2010, 5:14 pm

Sure :) Although we are just under 12 hours which is reasonable...

"Fancy cars and diamond rings
I`ve seen all kind of shiny things
I should be feeling alive again
But Lord I don´t"

70Boobalack
Jan 18, 2010, 5:21 pm

Okay. Maybe we should say after 12 hours, anyone may post the next set of lyrics.

I think you've stumped me. What do we do, now? The words sound kind of C&W. Maybe somebody else will get it before long.

I think Ray Charles recorded it, but the one I like is by Waylon Jennings. I especially love the harmonica at the end. It sounds so sad and lonely, just like the song.

I have no idea what Two Princes has to do with either my post or the lyrics posted above. Goodness, what horrible lyrics. Don't know the name or the artist, so please carry on. Thanks.

edit: They are horrible lyrics in my opinion, but I know others may not think so. There's that different drummer, again! lol

>128 Boobalack: Then I need to find it with Waylon Jennings. Which album?

I think 127 does not get the idea of the game (that we try to guess tunes) and just decided to post some lyrics... Oh well.

And here is the next:

"Seven deadly sins
Seven ways to win
Seven holy paths to hell
And your trip begins"

130Boobalack
Edited: Jan 29, 2010, 5:49 pm

It's on the first album he ever did: "The One and Only Waylon Jennings" -- 1967. I got the Album, then the 8-track, then a cassette, and now a CD. It's now out of print, but I found one with "Heartaches by the Numbers" on amazon.com and on another site, CD Universe, I think. Anyway, I'm not sending a link since you're in Bulgaria -- figured you could do a Google and would know the best place for you to place an order. The One and Only Waylon Jennings CD is the search string I used.

Good luck!

Sorry for the hijack, folks. Please continue the game. Thanks. :-)

PeeEss~The CD I have is a single CD, ordered while it was still in print but hard to find. It has some other really good songs on it, so it is well worth the price, even if it didn't have the other CD added to it. It was less than $12.

amazon.com is my best and cheapest way to get music when it is not published here usually (go figure - you would expect that I should be able to find it cheaper from someone in Europe...):) Thanks for the info and the name of the album - need to see if I can find it somewhere :)

And it's not a hijack - we talk about what we guess so... :)

132Boobalack
Jan 31, 2010, 6:13 pm

You're right about the hijack. It doesn't look like anyone can name your last tune, so would you like to tell us what it is and post another? I used to be good at "Name That Tune" when it was on television, but of course older tunes were played. ;-) I'm a bit old to be guessing a lot of the newer stuff, but this game is still fun.

133AnnieMod
Jan 31, 2010, 6:27 pm

That one was more than 20 years old so not exactly new: Moonchild by Iron Maiden :) I am not much into nowadays music - like a few singers and a song her and there but prefer oldish stuff.

next one:

"Sundown all around
Walking through the summer's end
Waves crash baby, don't look back
I won't walk away again"

134Boobalack
Jan 31, 2010, 9:22 pm

Anything 20 years old is "new" stuff to me. Ha! I'll be 70 this year, and the last time I was "cool," according to one of my grandsons, was when I had Springsteen's "Born in the USA" tape. I might recognize a few "new"er ones because of grandchildren.

Your lyrics look kind of Cat Stevens-ish.

Clue: song is about an article of clothing, sung by an American male artist in the 60's

250Booksloth
Feb 14, 2010, 6:52 am

My first thought (after that clue) was 'A White Sport Coat and a Pink Carnation' but it really sounds from the lyric as if this one is about a hat. Am I even in the right clothing area? (Definitely not Easter Bonnet anyway - would Fred be so ungentlemanly as to jump on a ladies chapeau?)

251DeltaQueen50
Feb 15, 2010, 12:50 pm

You're on the right track about it being a hat - but definitely not Fred Astaire - but if he did jump on a lady's hat, he would do it elegantly!

This singer is more about the satire of dressing fashionably. Originally classed as a folk singer, he is now considered an icon of American music.

283Papiervisje

Title is Wooden Ships.
Musicians: Crosby, Stills & Nash or Jefferson Airplane
If you smile at me, I will understand
'Cause that is something
everybody everywhere does
In the same language

I can see by your coat, my friend
You're from the other side
There's just one thing I got to know
Can you tell me please, who won?

Say, can I have some of your purple berries?
Yes, I've been eating them
for six or seven weeks now
Haven't got sick once
Probably keep us both alive

Wooden ships on the water, very free and easy
Easy, you know the way it's supposed to be
Silver people on the shoreline, let us be
Talkin' 'bout very free and easy

Horror grips us as we watch you die
All we can do is echo your anguished cries
Stare as all human feelings die
We are leaving, you don't need us

Go, take your sister then, by the hand
Lead her away from this foreign land
Far away, where we might laugh again
We are leaving, you don't need us

And it's a fair wind blowin' warm
Out of the south over my shoulder
Guess I'll set a course and go

soniaandree, you are more than welcome to play but getting people's turn makes the already mentioned people a bit too sad. :) welcome in the game.

>326 Papiervisje:
How many La-a are there? 24?
LMFAO have a song from last year called "La la la" that has exactly 24 la somewhere in the text (yeah, counted them once...) But they are not Australian. Nor the song starts with them

"Around the World" (A Touch of Class (or were they still called ATC back then?)) also have 24 la in a row but not at the beginning. And they are from the wrong continent

Musiq Soulchild's "Halfcrazy" starts with more la's than that I believe (never counted these but there were enough) but he is not an Aussie either.

The Bird and the Bee's "La la la" has enough and it start like this but they are US I think.
