...but the list is still arranged in author order. Authors are present in style A, but missing from one other style (D, I think).

And the sort remains, whether or not you can see the column you're sorting on. You can sort either by clicking the column header, if the sort you want appears in the view you're using, or use the button with the up/down arrows and choose any sort (and subsort) you like.

I did change the defaults recently—to improve them, I think. We can perhaps talk about the best options, although it's hard because all the heavy talkers also know you can edit anything, so they're not going to be as invested in it.

That's fixed it. It's just in the three years or so of LT-ing, I'd had my pages switch styles on me before, but never column selections. So I assumed something was wrong. Thanks, guys.

Yeah, I don't think they've ever changed defaults before, though it's been so long since I used the defaults that I wouldn't know.

>4 timspalding: I've made suggestions about the defaults multiple times, and you've never shown any interest in them.
What are the defaults now?

This thread (especially since #4) has set me to thinking and I have made a proposal in RSI that I would ask that you consider and comment on.

You've got to wonder what that was all about! Although the presets were changed, the only actual additions to the list of available options were: review language and CK:movies. Is there something exciting going on behind the scenes, Tim?

So, it seems that the current defaults are:

I have to say, I don't think they make much sense. I've always thought the defaults should try to give a sense of the varied things available on LT. Why are A and D pretty much identical, while not one single style has Date Read? Why is there hardly anything at all in B?
Also, what were the recent changes, and why did they happen? And before I waste any more time, are you actually interested in getting user input here?

I agree with Zoe, though not about the "Date Read" hobby-horse; the glaring omission to my eyes is Collections. A and D are far too similar, and styles B and E are far too sparse.
My own settings include an "author-centric" one, including Other Authors, a "classification-centric" one with Dewey and LC, one with entry date and CK:OPD (which would have Date Read, if I used it); I can easily see a CK-centered one being used, as well.
