Here Are The Suggested Rules of the Game:
1. Please play on the most recent correct post.
2 Please verify that no one else has posted while you were preparing your post.
3. The title of the book cited must have one word, at least, which is the same as a word in the previous title.
4. The repeated word in the new title must be other than an article ("a", "an", or "the").
5. The repeated word must be spelled exactly as the word was spelled in the previous title. E.g., "prune" is not the same word as "prunes", and "loyal" is not the same word as "loyalty."
6. The repeated word must be in the title as shown in a LT library listing, or on the title page of the book. A sub-title or a series name can be included if the sub-title or series name is included in the title of a LT library listing, or is printed on the title page of the book.
7. A hyphenated word is one word, not two: e.g., "thunder-clouds"; and if used must be repeated in full, not in part only.
8. If you have read the book it would be informative that you so indicate and tell when you read it, if you can.
9. Try to use Touchstones. Put brackets around the title and double brackets around the author. If Touchstones don't work, try using an html link.

This is not a post to continue the game, but instead, a question or three.
A book's title is that which is on the title page. So far, so good. When I post a title in one of the games, I search my library for a title. So far, so good. Now comes a question: What about when the title page doesn't contain the same information, such as "A Novel," that pops up in a search? I've noticed that many book titles in LT have extra words, according to the title page. So, what do we use? I haven't been checking my title pages, as by the time I found the book and looked, someone would probably have posted ahead of me.
Thanks for clarification.

#109 Boobalack,
Good point. The Library Thing listings of a search of your library should be good enough for this game. The suggested rules are guidelines.
In some LT listings, subtitles are listed, and in others they are not. That's life. There's no need to verify that the additional words are included on the title page of the book.
If need be, we can clarify Rule 6 even more:
6. The repeated word must be in the title as shown in a LT library listing, or on the title page of the book. A sub-title or a series name can be included if the sub-title or series name is included in the title of a LT library listing, or is printed on the title page of the book.
Yays? Nays?

Thanks. I vote yes. It would be easier that way.
I've often wondered why a book is listed as
"Title: A Novel," anyway. Most fiction works are novels, unless they are a collection of short stories or novellas.

Still, to my mind, it may well be Bellowʻs greatest novel.

Before the Mayflower: A History of the Negro in America, 1619-1962 by Lerone Bennett, Jr.
read in the late 60s, iirc
*this appears as a touchstone under a different title: Before the Mayflower: A History of Black America, which isn't the one i have. mine is the earlier 1962 edition.
