It was way down at the bottom of the list. You can also click "Your posts" off to the left which will show you any thread you have posted to. I keep my reading thread starred so I can find it though.

On whether threads go dead after a while I have no idea.

I don't think they go dead - just "dormant" after 90 days. But they can be revived by anyone adding a new post even after a few years of dormancy. There is also the the option of starting a new thread with a slight change in it's name.
