Just managed to break the e-ink screen on my Nook .... and I'm going on a long trip next week.

Just my luck... at least I bought the extended warranty but I hear that involves mailing it out and waiting for a replacement.

Oh no!

How did that happen?

that is the major downside of these devices, you can lose all your books at once.

I had it balanced on the edge of a table and knocked it into a trashcan... was completely my fault. (I'm a klutz.. I bought the extended warranty because I KNEW something like this would happen)

The good news is ... I called Barnes and Noble. They are shipping me a new one and it will be here in time for my trip. I just have to pack up my old one and send it back within 2 weeks so they don't charge my credit card.

I wont lose any of my books either, all I need to do is register the new one to my B&N account and they should load right back up.

I may have some problems with my adobe digital editions books since I think they only register to one device... but I only have two of those and neither were ones I absolutely had to keep.

Phew!

Good news!
You'll be okay with ADE - it's also a 6 device thing, though maybe your PC counts as one.

Sorry about your accident, but great news that they will ship it so quickly. YAY!!!

My book fell down. I picked it up. The story I was reading was still there.

It was a trade paperback. ;)

While paper books are all well and good... I read FAST.

In order to keep myself busy for a week I would have to carry at least 5-6 books.

Nook is easier on my back. :P

:)

You know what really annoys me about the Nook? I can't tell what others are reading on the Metro train by simply sneaking a peek! :(

I'm a BookCrosser so I generally just pick up a used book somewhere while travelling, then later wild release that same book somewhere. I, do, however, see why the Nook works better for some people. I actually looked at the Nook as an idea for my husband, but the font size could not be made as large as that in large type books. :(

Hee hee.. that's another reason I like my Nook... I can read trashy novels and not feel embarrassed :P

Guess I'll have to start sneaking peeks onto the Nook screens then...and try to guess what people are reading. :)

I've seen pretty Nook covers. It would be funny, though, to have a Nook cover that was also the cover of a trashy novel. :D

The title of the book is in the upper right-hand corner of the screen usually. If you peek anywhere aim for that!

#9 "but the font size could not be made as large as that in large type books. :( "

I'm surprised. It does depend a bit on the starting font size of the file - which can be edited with free programs like Calibre, for some books - but it seems to go pretty big on my Sony. Have you looked at other models of ereader?

I haven't looked at other models. I just looked at one Nook for the fun of it, but I'm sticking to large-type books from the library for hubby.

9> The Nook now comes with larger font sizes, I mean larger ones have been added relatively recentily. I haven't played around with the text size, so I am uncertain how large "extra super-duper large" might be.

Couldn't they have just let you switch out at a physical B&N??

I need to remember to star threads I post in.

Switch out at a physical B&N? Switch out what?

The B&N I went to had Nooks out to play with. Also, I finally got around to looking at the extra large size text option, and it is huge.

I meant, instead of mailing it and waiting for a replacement to come in, couldn't they just allow the person to make the exchange through the physical store?

20> Oh. Well, I've not yet needed to make an exchange, luckily enough, so I do not know how that would be handled.

They do not allow a physical exchange under the warranty. But I recieved my new nook via UPS overnight. Granted it was not shipped overnight... it was a 3-5 day turn around when I checked, I just got lucky that the shipment was from NJ and I live in MD.
