I'm going to offer these, if anybody wants them I'll send them, if you don't I'm trashing them.
1) 1 offer: 4 University of Missouri Media Guides; 1992-93 Basketball, 1996 Hall of Fame Game vs. Memphis, 1993-94 Big Eight Conference Basketball, 1995 Missouri Football. Will be listed under Missouri media guides on BM.
2) 1 offer: 7 Missouri Historical Reviews published by The State Historical Society of Missouri; April '68, July '68, July '72, January April & July '73, January '77. Some water damage, poor condition generally. Will be listed under Missouri Historical Review on BM.
3) Circa 1927 New Testament published by the American Bible Society, hardback, large print, very poor condition with some loose pages (I think they're all there) and wear and tear on the spine. I only offer this because I think old bibles are cool... Old New Testament on BM.
4) Complete Home Improvement Handbook 1957 bookclub edition with dustjacket. DJ has some tears but the book is in pretty good shape. Some staining on the top but I don't think it's water related since there's no warping.
5) The Best of James Herriot pretty good condition, DJ has some tears, especially on spine, some foxing on pages towards front of book
6) Our Presidents by James Morgan; old beat up Grosset & Dunlap 1926 edition. Actually the cover and the pages aren't in too bad a shape but the spine is torn at the top.
Let me know if there's any interest...

I just mooched the Missouri Historical Review. I have been a little concerned about finding so little non-fiction history here.

I have three books to add to my invintory that I thought I'd give LTer's first crack at:
Life of Pi by Yann Martel (orange cover with tiger face)
- some shelf wear, yellowing pages, highlighting on pages: 6, 31, 78, 79, and 81. It looks as though someone used this to complete an essay as only one or two lines on each page listed above are highlighted.
and YA fiction:
Running Out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix (Originl Cover first printing paperback)
- some yellowing, some spinal creasing (not noticible unless you look really close, some shelf wear, and a bit of a seperation...this was caused by the book mark that had been stuck inside the book and then the book being put onto the shelf between many other books. I will include the book mark to anyone who mooches the book. It is a Penuts book mark featuring Lucy on a pink background saying; "reading makes you beautiful!"
The Lightning Theif by Rick Riordan (Movie Cover but original book inside)
- minor shelf wear, name in pen on inside cover, in very good condition besides that.
I won't be able to ship until late August early September but thought that someone here might want them instead.
~ Missy
Edited to add third book, cover descriptions, and condition notes.

9: Do you have anything in the patterns that might fit the American Girl's or Bitty Baby dolls?
My daughter has a Bitty Baby, but clothing for it is expensive! And I know she'll have at least one American Girls doll when she is older.
We like modest type clothing - a lot of the 60's stuff works, 50's and earlier is great. Historical is great too as we home school and can tie it in.

I make a lot of clothes for my children and my 5 year old daughter has started requesting that her various dolls have some too! Currently making a very small Barbie bra/vest/knicker set in blue cotton at her insistence!

I just added five more books to my inventory, and thought I'd give people here a "heads up"...
Return to Howliday Inn by James Howe (children's)
Blurb from book cover:
The Monroes are going on vacation--and the animals are going to Chateau Bow-Wow...known to them as "Howliday Inn". This visit turns out to be even worse than the last harrowing experience--with a whole new cast of characters: a very sad Great Dane, a pair of worried yuppie puppies, and two sinister sisters who pride themselves as cat burglars. But even more frightening are the voices in the night, mysterious disappearances...and the bone-chilling secret of Howliday Inn.
Sing Down the Moon by Scott O'Dell (children's/young adult)
Blurb from book cover:
One lovely spring day, 14 year old Bright Morning and her friend Running Bird take their sheep to pasture. The sky is clear blue against the red buttes of the Canyon de Chelly, and the fields of the Navahos promise a rich harvest. Bright Morning is happy as she gazes across the beautiful valley that is the home of her tribe, until the barking of Black Dog disturbs her and she turns. It is then that she sees the Spanish slavers riding straight towards her.
The Wind's Twelve Quarters by Ursula LeGuin (short stories/science fiction) Mooched
Evil Under the Sun by Agatha Christie (mystery)
Blurb from book cover:
Who had strangled seductive Arlena?
Was it her proud and reserved husband, who knew she was an adulteress? Or her strange stepdaughter, who made voodoo dolls in Arlena's image and stuck pins in them? Was it the religious fanatic who was tortured by her beauty? Or the young man who was so obiously in love with her? Or, possibly, one of the women who had--or thought she had--reasons to wish her dead?
Hercule Poirot, vacationing at the scene of the tragedy, agreed to interrupt his holiday to try to solve the baffling case.
Grey Seas Under by Farley Mowat (sea story/adventure)
Blurb from book cover:
Disaster at sea...
The call for help is a call for action for the Foundation Franklin, a sea-going rescue tug. It ranges far out to sea to rescue the great ships in storm and fog in waters patrolled by U-Boats. No work is more dangerous, none requires a higher degree of seamanship and courage.
Farley Mowat spent two years gathering this material, and sailed on some of the missions he describes. The result is a modern epic--a vigorous, dramatic picture of the eternal battle between men and the cruel sea. Mooched

I'm planning to put up these trade paperbacks:
The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists by Neil Strauss (finally tried to read it and my eyes nearly rolled out of my head) MOOCHED
Skinny Legs and All by Tom Robbins
The Trials of the Honorable F. Darcy by Sara Angelini
Sebastian Darke: Prince of Fools by Philip Caveney MOOCHED
The Game is a bit weatherbeaten, but the other three are in good condition with an occasional spine crease and some shelfwear.
They're all too heavy for me to send outside North America (some are even too heavy for Mexico), so I thought I'd post here first in case anyone needed an angel.

I have a book on many wishlists and thought I'd offer it up here at LT first.
Yarn Harlot by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee (ISBN: 978-0-7407-5037-3)
Used copy, at page 201 the pages have been pushed in a bit as though shoved into another shelf (this also occured ti the back cover), the book is also slightly dirty at that point. The pages being pushed in and the dirt does not affect the words or the readability of the book. Also there is a black magic marker line across the bottom of the book, also doesn't impact the readability of the book. Good copy if you want to read it or take it to the beach ect.
Let me know if you're intrested.
Cheers,
~ Missy

I'm moving to Saudi Arabia in a couple of weeks, and so am weeding some bookshelves before the packers arrive. I just culled 36 books in this first sweep but will likely be adding over the next few days.
There are too many to list here I believe so I've created a collection (ToBeBookmooched) and tagged them "moochable" if you want to take a look (http://www.librarything.com/catalog/ForeignCircus&tag=moochable I hope will work). Included are some old Darkover novels- the DAW books with yellow spines. If you are interested in anything you see listed, let me know!

The Little Lame Prince by Dinah Maria Mulock Craik
It's the 1983 printing. It's starting to tan a bit, and has slight wear on the cover, but is in pretty good condition for it's age.

The Time of the Witch by Mary Downing Hahn
It is starting to tan a bit, and has a price sticker and slight wear on the cover, but is in pretty good condition.
And one more for adults:
She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb
Slight tanning of pages, a few spine creases, and mild curvature of the spine, but the cover looks good, and it's in decent, readable condition.

Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie
Blurb from book cover:
"...two hapless city boys are exiled to a remote mountain village for re-education during China's infamous Cultural Revolution. There they meet the daughter of the local tailor and discover a hidden stash of western classics in Chinese translation. As they flirt with the seamstress and secretly devour these banned works, they find transit from their grim surroundings to worlds they never imagined."
Slight wear around edges of cover, but generally in good condition. -- Mooched

Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom

I feel like there is another thread somewhere for this, but I am too tired to go look. Anyhow. Pimping an online bookstore's inventory: Bookcloseouts.com just put up a childrens' sale where select books are ninety-nine cents (16 books + shipping = $24 for me), and I saw a bunch that were on multiple wishlists. (Hence my saying something.) They ship internationally, but it might not be worth it given shipping costs.

I have all three books in the Professor Dr von Igelfeld series by Alexander McCall Smith: Portuguese Irregular Verbs, The Finer Points of Sausage Dogs, and At the Villa of Reduced Circumstances.
They are thin volumes so I'd like to send them out as a set to save on postage. All are in good condition with the dust jackets intact. They are Vintage Canada editions.

So, my friend gave me The Wycliffe Bible Commentary to put on BookMooch, and since it looks really big and impressive and pretty, I thought someone on here might want it.
Due to its size, I most definitely will not be able to mail it internationally myself, but we can find you an angel if you like. :)

I have an old book that doesn't have any wishlisters on BM, and I'd rather not have it sitting around so I'll take it to the thrift store or something if no one wants it, but just in case....
Does anyone want My America, your America by Lawrence Welk?
(dust jacket worn/torn, but pages are fine)

*giggles* It reminds me of my childhood. We had a family timeshare at the Lawrence Welk Resort in California and spent every Mother's Day there. (which is why a part of me wants to see it go to someone here then a thrift store)

Right now I'm declaring war on my bookshelf...I'm listing 10 books at the start of each month and if there's no takers / no interest by the end of the month, they're going to the literary afterlife (aka somewhere else).
It's not the most exciting list ever, but if anything takes your fancy, speak now or forever hold your peace. I don't send internationally but I will reserve things until an Angel is found.

Here are some books I'm planning to put up soon. They're in varying conditions and weights (I'll always hold for an angel), and of course I'd prefer to keep some of the series together, but I don't care too much. Let me know if you want conditions.
Manga, all good condition:
(L->R unfortunately):
Clover, v1 & 2 (still have the translucent dust jackets)
Ranma 1/2, v. 3, 9
Sorcerer Hunters, vols. 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11
Alien Nine v.3 (R->L)
Owlflight, Owlsight, and Owlknight by Mercedes Lackey & Larry Niven (MM, MM, HC)
Powers that Be, Power Lines, Power Play, by Anne McCaffrey and Elizabeth Ann Scarborough (MM)

if anyone wants anything off my BM inventory {I'm Sandygirl on BM} please mooch is THIS WEEK. It will mail sometime in the next two weeks depending on how much I end up spending in postage.
After 7/25 I will be taking 95% of my inventory off BM and taking it to the used book store here in town. I will only be keeping the books wish listed by active members, and those only for another month after sending another reminder.
I've got to cut down how much I'm spending for postage each month, and the best way to do that is to not send any out for a while as I'm comfy on credits already.

I'm going through my bookshelves, trying to clear things out and I just came upon a stray DVD that I don't want. Anyone want the DVD called "The Russell Girl"? It's one of those Hallmark Made-For-TV movies that someone gave me and I watched already and it isn't the kind of DVD that I really want to watch over and over again. I don't remember much about it...
The back says Everyone in Sarah Russell's small hometown knows her story but no one is talking about it.
Sarah, the picture perfect girl-next-door, took a job in Chicago thinking she could escape memories of a tragic accident that she blames on herself. But when she receives some unsettling news, Sarah decides to return home and try to heal old wounds. When she receives understanding and support from unexpected sources, Sarah's story becomes a journey toward forgiveness and hope for the future.
Someone named Amber Tamblyn stars.
If anyone is interested, just send me a note. I can reserve it for you on Bookmooch, I suppose?? I mean it isn't a book, but I hate to just throw it in the trash, ya know?
It's Zone 1, Full Screen, 5.1 Dolby Surround.

The Giver - used condition, slightly dog eared, creases on spine
Gathering Blue - small crease on front cover, this one came from a moocher who smoked so it smelt a bit of cigarette smoke when I received it. I've had it a few months and I can't smell any smoke on it now

Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident by Eoin Colfer - used condition, creases on spine
City of the Beasts by Isabel Allende - used condition, creases on spine
I send worldwide. Let me know and I'll reserve them for you.

MOOCHEDThe DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend by Kody Keplinger is releasing in September 2010. Never read. It does have cover art, but with the big ARC circle. Ages 15 and up. Excellent, never read condition.
MOOCHEDNight Train to Lisbon by Emily Grayson. Not sure where I got this - it's the ARC for a book which was going to be published in May 2004. Pale blue cover, no art, just black text with the detail. Very good condition, but crease in back cover.

Thanks for the update Bcteagirl! Maybe I will finally get that copy of The Road that I have been lusting away (it's requested so we will see!)
I have a few to list myself. I will qualify my post by firstly saying that I generally mail worldwide but please don't ask me to mooch you something if you aren't also willing to mail outside your country. I realize postal rates are expensive sometimes but if I am willing to suck it up (and in Canada, we really are sucking it up comparatively speaking), then so should you.
The Grays by Strieber - ARC trade copy in excellent shape.
Joe College by Perrotta - trade copy in excellent shape except for a price sticker on the front (could be removed with a little elbow grease but I am too lazy) MOOCHED
Absolution by Ramsay - ARC trade copy in excellent shape
Sleeping Partner by Humphreys - used trade in good shape

Backseat Saints by Jackson - brand new h/c in excellent condition MOOCHED
Leisureville by Blechman - used h/c in good condition but has minor tear on dust jacket
Just Jane by Lavender - ARC trade copy in good shape. Y/A historical novel. MOOCHED

Sorry, was my note too mean? I didn't mean to sound crabby! It's part me being ornery these days and part me getting a little annoyed when people ask for things that they wouldn't themselves send me.
But I will get off my little soap box now and start mailing stuff out :)

>>174 Yells: - thanks! and no, your note wasn't mean at all - and I believe entirely within the spirit of BookMooch (or what I think the spirit of it is). And I feel the same way. Although I've never said no, I look twice if I get a request from someone overseas who has marked that they will not send out of their country. There is something about that which just doesn't seem "fair".
Whether you intended it or not, I think putting that note here on LT and not posting your books on BM yet was a great idea. BM rules can't apply to you here, and you won't be in a position of saying no to someone who is trying to play the system.
I don't have a lot in my inventory, but I'm happy to ship to Canada if there is anything you want.
Thanks for the books.

#177 pbadeer - being against the rules on BM means just that - you are not allowed to refuse international mooches just because the moocher doesn't send internationally. You have no way of knowing what other peoples situations are and why they only mooch domestically.
I deeply resent your saying that people are trying to play the system. John has set it up that way and that's the way it works and just because you interpret it differently doesn't make your interpretation correct. Lots of people feel like you do, but you're all wrong.

>>190 karenmarie: - wow, so much for freedom of expression.
Personally, I think the way John set up the system is fantasic. For every international mooch I have sent, my "cost per point" has been less for the international shipments than for some of my domestic ones because of those bonus points. And I understand that some people don't need those bonus points (because they may already have more points than they can use) so they don't want to spend the money to ship out of the country. I get that, and of course, they have that right. But since BM is a global community, and international moochers are stuck shipping the bulk of their titles overseas, I think it is within reason to hesitate to ship to someone whom you know would NOT ship back to you if you needed it.
Look, I am relatively new to BM, and I am still figuring out this community. I don't "deeply resent" the individuals who don't post condition notes, accept a mooch from me only to turn around a month later to tell me they can't find the book, or post statements on their profile that since they are free, I shouldn't expect things to be in good condition. That's their right, and I have a right NOT to mooch from them (and yes, I realize I could have turned in the woman who lost the book, but what's the point? It was an honest mistake and what good could pointing out her gaffe serve?). Do I have the right to refuse mooching to the jerk who told me that if I expect something in good condition I should go to a bookstore? Even him I don't "deeply resent", I just avoid. and if that's breaking the rules, than BM is not for me. (and before you turn me in, he has not asked and I have not rejected a request yet)
I think everyone wants BM to be as good as it can be. The Angel Network was a great solution to keep books moving, and other aspects of the site (some I probably haven't even discovered) all serve the same goal. But like any large and popular group, there will be those who play the system, prey on negativity and bring out the worst in others. If lots of people feel like I do (and we're all wrong) then perhaps we can work positively together to come up with solutions to redress the iniquities and slights that some members feel.
And by the way, I'm pretty sure I remember a "rule" on LT about personal attacks. Food for thought.

What if a person had shipped mooches previously, but has to 'trim' back for now for any number of good reasons?
Should they put:
"I am temporarily not shipping internationally because..... my work hours have chenged & I can't get to the post office to fill out the custom forms... budget cuts.... child care/ babysitter issues.... temporary insanity... vacation... school... "
or
"I just cannot ship internationally at this time, but will resume when I can. Angel mooches are welcomed & encouraged."
I've also read status reports where the person cannot get to the post office for good physical reasons... children, disabled, lack of transportation... they can use internet postage, but cannot get to the post office. Should they be penalized for that?
Those who choose not to send a book internationally for any reason, or lack of reason, can do that.... even by not telling the truth....
but put yourself in the other person's situation.... even if they don't state why they cannot or do not send internationally. No one wants pity because of financial, physical or circumstantial reasons.... they have a right to keep their 'issues' private.... and not have to announce them to the world or BM.
My BM motto is "treat others better than I expect (or want) to be treated". When I "give" more, I truly "get" more.
And this is not directed at just one person.... because there are many who choose to circumvent BM policy... in many different ways... and there are some who take advantage of BM policy to take greater advantage of BM than what is intended.
All I have to say in response is "Be Careful of Book Karma"

pdadeer, what karenmarie said was certainly not a person attack, in any way. She was trying to point out to you the exact same thing that *I* tried to point out a little farther up: It IS against the rules, and what you feel/think about it doesn't really matter on that front. This is not a person attack, it's simply explaining the rules.
Do I have the right to refuse mooching to the jerk who told me that if I expect something in good condition I should go to a bookstore? Even him I don't "deeply resent", I just avoid. and if that's breaking the rules, than BM is not for me.
From everything you have posted so far, I'd say BM is not for you. The spirit of BM is to strip away all the negative biases and trade around books REGARDLESS of what you or anyone else thinks of the person. It is against the rules to refuse a mooch based on where the person lives (except in regards to shipping *costs*), what their shipping status is, what their opinions are, etc etc. And really, that IS the fairest way to run this kind of site, otherwise you could refuse to send to me because I'm gay, and what kind of booktrading site would it be if everyone could refuse for such petty reasons?

>191 pbadeer:
Take heart. BM is most definitely for you. I think you have a very good and mature attitude.
I can see both sides of the issue frankly. At one point (Not currently, no need to call the guards!! lol) I stated that *preference* will be given to people who were at least willing to consider sending internationally. Yes, there are those who have *very* legitimate reasons for not being able to send elsewhere... one can use those examples every time but that does not stop all debate on the issue. The issue does remain.
Bookmooch is in essence an International group.. there are various national groups for persons not wanting to participate internationally. And when I see books I cannot get (and lets be realistic, angeling is fantastic but does not always work) I would be lying if I said it did not irk me.
That being said, I could be accused of being a horrible evil person for denying international people who cannot afford to send books internationally their books. One can also make the argument that they did have to send books to order books. Both very valid arguments. Part of the joy of bookmooch (For me) is finding books good homes.
While there are certainly cases worse than mine who cannot afford to send at all, there are case where that is not the case... I have talked to members who do not send internationally simply because of the more complicated trips to the post office for example. Others may simply prefer cheaper points. To pretend that never happens, or occurs in the vast minority of cases is simplistic.
I want to stress that I have yet to deny anyone a mooch because they do not send internationally. I also confess (Hopefully there are not rules on opinions lol) that I do feel for people who wish others to send internationally if they are ordering international books from them. I am a student. My income is fixed. There are times when it does stretch my budget much more than it should to send books internationally. I would hope others would return the favour. Part of the problem is is that booklovers cannot always assume that others will be as altruistic (Not quite the proper word since we are getting books, but still) as they are. And should they expect it? Should any level of altruism be expected? Or is bookmooch about more self interested book trading? All good questions.
It is a fine line that needs to be walked...and discussed in with an open mind.. whether or not their are rules we should be able to discuss this without resorting to extreme examples (What about someone in poverty who can't afford it, and needed that one book to get their GED and now you just destroyed their lives you heartless bastard!! lol.. I get carried away sorry).
I agree with both sides at this point.. even if they seem to be behaving in a divisive manner. I think at the very least bookmooch could do more to encourage members to behave in international ways rather than shut themselves off in their respective countries. I just haven't figured out how yet :P

194: And now I feel bad for being so rude in my last post. lol You worded things BEAUTIFULLY.
I completely agree that discussing this sort of thing should be okay, and no rules can or should limit what you think or how you feel *about* the rules.
I do, despite my tone earlier, understand the other side of this debate. I honestly do. I have gotten grumpy when a long-sought-after wishlist hit ends with a "will not send to your country" notice. Or when someone mooches from me who doesn't seem to like or put much care into sending out books.
I would never want to deny anyone their opinions or their ability to express them here. What puts a burr up my butt is when people actually say that they are breaking BM rules, and their tone implies that they won't stop. I'm not saying that's what happened here, but it has happened in the past, and that's why I'm a little quick to snap about these sort of things.
I'm all for talking about and even debating the rules, but when people blatantly say that they do, or will, break the rules, that's what fires me up.

I completely agree, Heather - it's John Buckman's site and John Buckman's rules, and one of his rules is that if you have earned points, you should be able to get books, full stop. I really miss being able to angel and send abroad, but but now I'm down to £8k a year (before tax), it's just not possible.
Having said that, though, I really do appreciate moochers who are willing to send abroad, and therefore I smooch those who are short on points, or stalk the wishlists of those who aren't - which brings me to a Very Important Message for ForeignCircus - are you there? I have a copy of Watchman by Ian Rankin which I've reserved for you from your wishlist (it's small enough that I will happily break my own rule and send it airmail), but my reservation emails don't seem to be reaching you!
Mooch away - you've been a great angel for me in the past!

Anyone want a trade paperback copy of Geraldine Brooks' Year of Wonders? It has significant shelfwear (the edges of the spine are worn), but it's still structurally sound and a great reading copy.
I do request two mooches for international requests. If you don't see anything in my BM inventory that you like, check out the PaperBackSwap tag in my library and if you see something you want, we can work it out.

#191 pbadeer - As has been noted, what I wrote was not a personal attack. Stating a fact is not an attack. I did not call you names nor imply any. And you certainly have freedom of expression here.
People have strong opinions on this issue of sending internationally to people who don't - on both sides of the aisle. The "Fair" point comes up frequently. I don't think of it in terms of fairness - I think of it in terms of getting and giving books.
I have been on Bookmooch for 2 years, have mooched 352 books and send 347 books with feedback of +347. I have also, with some pressure, sent books internationally when I haven't had the money to do so and received extremely nasty e-mails from people who don't want to mooch to me because I'm set to domestically only and they're in a foreign country. Believe me, I've gone through the ringer over this issue. Even cried a few tears over viciousness from a woman in England - nobody here, I hasten to add.
And, by the way, the problem of seeing books you want being available but not to you doesn't only work with people trying to mooch from US BM members - of my Wishlist of 243 books, there are 8 books listed as available to mooch.
3 are reserved
3 are not to my country
1 is ask but it's not important enough a mooch to me to spend 2 points.
1 is will send but it's not important enough a mooch to me to spend 2 points.
You wrote: I think it is within reason to hesitate to ship to someone whom you know would NOT ship back to you if you needed it.
I don't think it is within reason. Bookmooch is not a book swapping site. There are people I've sent books to and received books from, but as separate, discrete transactions, never a swap. I'm sure there are BMers who have never received a book from anyone they've sent to. That's not the way it is set up. I send books, I get books. Making friends with fellow BMers is a bonus -and for me making BM friends has occurred exclusively through LT.
#194 Bcteagirl - Regarding your paragraph: I agree with both sides at this point.. even if they seem to be behaving in a divisive manner. Bookmooch does promote the international nature of their website - the default when you join is Ask, not "only to my country", and you get 3 points for sending internationally too. And yet, for some reason, some of us still choose to send domestically. And we have our reasons. And we don't have to explain them (although I have on other threads over time).
So back to pimping our inventories.

Speaking of pimpin'....
I have the following...
The Secret History of the Pink Carnation - Just got from BM. Was supposed to be a HB but ended up being paperback (which I already have) It is in decent condition, some spine creasing and cover wear, as well as a curve to the spine.
Masque of the Black Tulip - Like new QP with black remainder mark on bottom
Deception of the Emerald Ring - Like new QP
If someone wanted all 3 at once, that would make me super happy.

Well said, Bcteagirl!
Adding my two cents... I would love it if everyone sent internationally, and figure that the best way to encourage others to do so is to personally mail books to anyone who wants them. I know some people will never be able to send internationally, (or can't for prolonged periods due to personal/financial reasons), but I hope that those who are on the fence about the whole thing will look to those who already send internationally as an example, and be motivated to do the same.

I really don't want to hijack this thread any more than its already been but as the original poster, I will throw my two cents in.
I stand behind my comment and if that makes me a horrible, nasty rule-breaker then so be it. But, this isn't BM so I haven't actually broken any rules. One can quibble that the intent is there and yah, I will agree with that comment but the truth of the matter is that in the few months that I have been a member, I have mailed books to the US and overseas without checking someone's status. To date, I have only denied one request and that was for a different reason.
To explain my frustration, I will use a recent example. I had a request to send a book to the US which I happily accepted. The book was a 400-paged trade p/b wrapped in a bubble mailer so it was a fair sized package in the end. To send it from Canada would have cost me about $8 but since I was traveling in the US, I decided to send it from there. I ended up paying $2 to send it and was told that it would be about $4 if it was being sent back to Canada. So basically for 3 points, I pay $8 while someone else only has to pay $4. Now this is just one example and obviously prices differ depending on the book etc. but for an average novel, an American comes out ahead by shipping to Canada (2X the price and 3X the points) while the Canadian gets screwed (pardon the language).
I really don't think Americans understand how lucky you all are to have reasonable shipping costs. It really does cost me $12 to send a couple magazines across Canada and $23 to mail a trade p/b to the UK. But I do it because I enjoy passing along books to people who I know will appreciate them. Can I afford it? No, not really. My husband isn't working right now and money is tight. But I continue because I think the concept of BM is good.
So when I post comments like that, it's not because I am trying to be a heartless bastard (thanks bcteagirl -that made me laugh!) but instead I am just trying to encourage people to be fair when asking for something. And yes, I do believe that in the end, it comes down to fairness.
I hope that at this point, we have all agreed to disagree and can get back to the business at hand.

I made some guesses as titles for BM and ended up getting two wrong books today, but in lovely condition!
One is Luncheonette by Sorrentino (who I thought was Gilbert S.'s son)
the other is Kipper's Game that I got for my son thinking it was Kipper the Dog (that adorably dry British children's shows). LOL. I was having an off night!
They are up for grabs to reserve if you wish, I'll post to BM later in the week. Both HC, with dust jackets, not giftable but barely used.

But you're free to mooch them if you like :)
Here's the summary:
Chitose works as a maid for the Kuze family, one of the most prestigious families of the time, in the Meiji Era. One day, Lan, a nephew of the Master, came back from England to be his adopted son. Chitose is assigned to be his caretaker while he adjusts to the new society, but, as time goes on... !

Honesty compels me to say I thought the book wasn't very good, and that the heroine is a self-absorbed ninny who throws tantrum after tantrum - but hey, it's on 25 wishlists on BM, so I guess some people want to try for themselves ;)
If you're interested, let me know. I ship worldwide.

I have a new hardcover copy of The Many Deaths of the Firefly Brothers (1400067537) up for grabs.
I won it from the publisher, but it took so long for the package to reach me that I broke down months ago and reviewed from a library copy. This new copy has never been read. There is some minor creasing at the edges of the dust jacket.
International requests will need to ship via Angel.

These finds from my fave thrift yesterday:
Mass Market:
Bootlegger's Daughter by Margaret Maron; Has about 5 pages coming loose from the spine at the bottom but still attached; otherwise good with tanned page edges.
A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving; Beat up edges and corners, browning, but tight.
Trade:
A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole; Generally very good and clean with names in ink inside cover, one bent corner and slight spine crease.
The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards; Good with one bent corner and wear on other corners.
The Witch of Portobello by Paulo Coelho; Very good with one slight corner ding.
A Fine Balanceby Rohinton Mistry; Good with small tear on front cover.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon; Good with a couple of worn corners.
These aren't posted yet. Please let me know if there's anything you'd like and I'll reserve it for you. I am Kaseya on BM.
Thanks.

When I was browsing our local charity/second hand book shop today (only came away with 11 books...) I spotted some Doctor Who books. They're mainly the new adventures with Rose as the doctor's assistant. I'm giving up ten Doctor Who episode novelizations. They're mostly Pinnacle editions, though, which means the page edges are bright yellow and shelfwear really shows up because the covers are black. I can do more thorough condition notes if you want. 2-for-1 everywhere.
Doctor Who and the Dinosaur Invasion (x2)
Doctor Who and the Day of the Daleks (x2)
Doctor Who and the Talons of Weng-Chiang (x2)
Doctor Who and the Revenge of the Cybermen
Doctor Who and the Genesis of the Daleks
Doctor Who and the Loch Ness Monster
Mawdryn Undead (Target edition): decent for reading but has shelfwear and quite a few cover creases. And Peter Davison sulking on the cover.

I am going Doctor Who book hunting Monday with my Mom since we are home visiting family. I will snatch up whatever I can find (even if I already have it) since I know it will find a good home anyway. :)

Anyone interested in Mooching girlie magazine's like Teen Vogue, Cosmo, Rolling Stone, Self, Shape, etc. I'm doing a 3-for-1 special to clean out my shelves. Also I have previously used shipping envelopes different shapes and sizes, some padded, some not, but ALL able to ship books. I ship 6 envelopes for one point :)
