Weber County Law Library

2464 Jefferson Ave.
Ogden, UT 84401

United States

Type: Library

Web site: http://www.weberpl.lib.ut.us/content/business/organization/index.php?c=history_law

Description: From the library website:

“Where can I find child custody forms?” “What are the standard visitation laws in Utah and surrounding states?” “Are there laws governing the eviction of a tenant?” “Where can I do legal research on the Internet?" “How do I contact the Attorney General’s office?" “Where can I find a copy of Weber County’s ordinances?” These and similar questions are fielded every day by the staff at the Weber County Law Library.

The Law Library has a unique historical collection including a complete set of Supreme Court cases dating from 1794, a collection of Federal Court cases dating back to 1880, and the complete Pacific Reporter dating from 1883. Digests, which index the cases by subject, are also available. The collection is augmented by access to the latest electronic resources available on CD-ROM and the Internet.

The Law Library currently houses a public computer center, copy facilities, and a conference room. Library employees teach many computer classes including “World Wide Web Basics," “How to Do Research on the Internet" and “An Introduction to Word Processing." Some of the classes are taught in Spanish.

While Law Library employees are not professionally trained attorneys and do not have the specialized skills necessary to do definitive legal research, or give legal opinions, they do have sophisticated library research skills and, in some cases, paralegal training.
