More of a collection of short stories this time with no real story arc, but they were great little stories! There was some back story to the exodus from the fairy tale land and the battle with the Adversary, not much but nice to get some of it filled in. I also liked learning a little more about Bigby's feelings for Snow White. It's been so long since I first read Fables I'd forgotten how funny it can be! Fables: The Deluxe Edition, Book 2 (2010) by Bill Willingham, etc. This is a nice collection of both short and long stories from the land of make believe. You know, New York. There are a few more characters added to the group found in the first collection. And we learn more about the homeland, the Adversaries, and the life of all who came over. Boy Blue’s story is as touching as it gets but all are worth reading. Using different artists in the various stories does leave the main characters looking different to various degrees, but in all this is a strong follow along to the original collection. Solid sophomore effort, the second volume. A combination of some progression of the main plot (learning more about the Adversary or how far the Fables will go to protect their secret community in the mundy world), but a larger focus on world-building and character development of characters, such as Boy Blue, Jack of Tales, Prince Charming, and Bigby. The art remains very good, but the revolving cast of illustrators places an unnecessary burden on readers as characters look different in different story arcs. I also liked there was a mixture of short and long stories. no reviews | add a review
