This is a book in Amy Rosenthal's cookie series. It has a heading definition at the beginning of each page and a gives a definition as to the meaning of the word as it applies the cookie related illustrations. Some of the vocabulary words seem a little hard for younger children, but I do think exposing them to the words and the definitions while looking at the illustrations will improve the understanding of the words and build a larger vocabulary. There are words like organized, unorganized, prompt, prepared, unprepared, compromise, curious, and creative to name a few. It is more of a book of things you might think about or do when making cookies. At the end of all the cookie books it also contains a cookie recipe. ( )

I found this book very interesting considering you are basically learning through cookies. I didn't really sense a connection through each word the author gave us, but you could tell it took place all around the same time. It is a very unique way of writing that pretty educational for younger children. ( )

This book is in series with the other cookie books. This book helps children have a better perspective of big words they may not understand. Amy Rosenthal has a way of making things relevant to young children without them knowing they are learning new things. ( )

I enjoyed this book because it was different than most child picture books. Although it was entertaining, it was informational. There were definitions and recipes in the book. I recommend it to 3rd graders because they could apply the information from the book into their home lives. It has good sight words like empathy-" your feelings somehow came into my feelings". It has examples of all the words it defines so the kids can understand it better. The main message is to teach kids to be kind to each other. ( )

In One Smart Cookie: Bite-Size Lessons for the School Years and Beyond, Rosenthal uses the cookies to describe words used in a school setting. I enjoy this book because it includes words that a teacher would say to student by using a delicious batch of cookies. ( )
