"Carthage's Road to War" — After recovering from a disastrous 310 B.C. Greek invasion, Carthage went on to become one of Rome's most feared opponents. "France's Protracted Humiliation" — Large obstacles facing Charles de Gaulle contributed to the Allied powers' poor image of the Free French. "William Walker's Manifest Destiny" — Filibuster and self-declared president William Walker's swashbuckling adventures made him a household name and ultimately led him to a Honduran firing squad. "Thunderbolt of War" — The father of the Spanish Armada was a master strategist and galley commander whose brilliance helped establish Spain's dominance from the Mediterranean to the Azores. "Harboring the Czar's Fleet" — The visit of two Russian fleets during the dark days of 1863 did much to bolster Northern spirits and strengthen the Union's international position. "The Red Orchestra Versus the Reich" — A coterie of German intellectuals, soldiers,a nd academics labored assiduously for the defeat of Adolf Hitler's Reich. "The Balloons of Paris" — The darkest hours of the 1870 Prussian siege of Paris were brightened by a small fleet of balloons that kept the French capital in touch with the outside world. "Reconsider, Hell!" — Phil Sheridan's single-minded pursuit of victory left a more cautious Union general ruined in the wake of the Battle of Five Forks.
