This is a great informational book about oceans, seas, and various animals that live in water. This book is elementary appropriate with medium size font and pleasing graphics. The information is also very interesting and the author does a good job of presenting facts in a kid-friendly, attention-getting way. I read this to my Kindergarten boys and they loved it! I only read two sections to them: the explanation of salty water, and the landforms that are on the ocean floor. They especially loved hearing there were volcanoes (sea mounts) and seaquakes way down, deep under the water! Their faces were hilarious when we read that part, like they had just seen an alien! This book motivated the boys very much for writer's workshop where they are creating their own nonfiction books about the ocean. Almost all of the boys wrote that there are seaquakes and seamounts on the ocean floor. It was a great lesson and I have Anita Ganeri to thank! ( )
