I enjoyed this, but after some years since reading it, I don't recall enough to discuss it. Each of the short stories in this collection packed some type of emotional gut punch. The title story was particularly intense. The author has a way of using language to capture truths and emotions in a powerful way. The stories tend to be very engaging, often bordering on lyrical, and then they end with impact. The thread running through the collection is primarily about the complexity of relationship Very well written. In this excellent collection Poissant examines family, marriage, friendship. and death,. How ordinary people bear unbearable losses, how they deal with missed chances and the consequences of actions taken in moments of panic, misunderstanding, and despair. Heavy material that is treated here with elegance, grace and touches of humor. The copy I read was from a local public library. no reviews | add a review
A first collection by an award-winning writer features characters at relationship crossroads in such stories as "Lizard Man," in which two men race to save a sick alligator; and "The End of Aaron," in which a girl helps her boyfriend face his greatest fears. No library descriptions found. |
