Wat een antisemitisch boek, zeg. Shakespeare being Shakespeare laat hij Shylock (die joods is) zijn punt ook wel maken. Maar tegenover hem staan protagonisten met sex appeal die voortdurend zijn onsympathiekheid en zijn joodsheid in één adem noemen. Bij bijna elk stuk van Shakespeare is er wel een moment waarop ik voel dat hij 400 jaar van me verwijderd is. Maar dat is hier veel sterker dan elders. ( )
