This text focuses upon the origins, development and decline of the Chartist movement and its impact on the political scene of 19th century Britain. Major themes and events including the Factory Movement, the anti-Pool Law campaign, the Chartist conventions and debates, mass demonstrations and the movement's petitions are examined. The role of the forces opposing Chartism are also considered, and a chapter presenting and in-depth analysis of conflicting historical interpretations assessing why the movement faded away in the 1850s.
