A delightful, witty and exciting interpretation of the Sherlock Holmes world. Set in modern days, Cumberbatch and Freeman are a perfect team, the co-creators, Mark Gatiss and Stephen Moffat have done a wonderful job of bringing the feeling of joy and fun to this show. ( )

A private investigator solves mysteries.

It seems quite fun at first, but there are enough gaping holes in the quality of the writing that I ultimately find myself annoyed with it more than anything else. How do you ruin Sherlock Holmes? Make him dumber than the audience. The more I see, the more convinced I am that Moffat's few great Who episodes were flukes.

Any time one watches a movie or reads a book and spontaneously laugh in delight at the action, that is a great work. This version of the Sherlock Holmes trope is set in the 21st century, with Sherlock a brilliant sociopath, and Dr. Watson as a retired military doctor, wounded in Afghanistan. Sherlock uses modern technology, and we watch his mind in action. For those familiar with the canon, the quirks of the characters and twists of the plot are a delight. Highly recommended. ( )
