This book, which accompanies a course offered by the Embroiderer's Guild of America, is very poorly written and hard to follow. It gives some background on Naversom, a traditional form of Swedish embroidery, explains basic stitches, and has the directions for the two projects needed to finish the course. The author tried to group all the information about each step in the process together, so the basic format is stitch information, that stitch in project 1, then that stitch in project 2, followed by the next stitch. While this seems like a good idea, it didn't work well at all and I ended up almost nightly with my embroidery in my lap, needle in my mouth, flipping back and forth trying to find the solution to the new problem I'd gotten myself into this time, often finding seemingly contradictory instructions on different pages. Fortunately I took the course with a group of women from my local guild chapter who were experienced enough to keep experimenting until they were able to figure out what the author actually meant. Not recommended. ( )
