Quelle délicieuse uchronie. De Gaulle se fait buter en 1960. L'Algérie reste alors française (pour une brève période). La France se replie sur elle-même dans une paranoïa fasciste. Le Summer of Love et le LSD connaissent leur summum à Biarritz. Les hippies connaissent leurs heures de Gloire dans la casbah algérienne. Un disque super rare recherché par tous les collectionneurs et d'autres personnes, plus troubles.
Finalement, l'histoire du roman est annexe, par rapport à l'excellent traitement que RCW réserve à l'Histoire. Un roman choral, complexe, décrivant un algérois où une odeur d'anis flotte dans les ruelles tortes écrasées de chaleur de la casbah. Une Histoire que j'ai adoré visiter et découvrir. Une grosse claque provenant d'un grand conteur d'histoires.

NOTE : voici la réponse à la question que peuvent se poser ceux qui ne lisent pas l'arabe et qui liraient ce livre : les courts mots en arabe qui parsèment l'ouvrage se traduisent, dans l'ordre, Sétif (p.13), Oran (p.70), Alger (p.142), Oras(?) (p.190), Constantine (p.266), Ouarcharis (Ouarsenis) (p.344). ( )
